  1. But now for a positive update...

Last night I contacted the officer in charge of my case again. He had just completed the police report. He said he was unable to give me her details, but I argued that my insurance company was being unreasonable and refusing to help me. So in the end he gave me her full name and phone number on the condition I didn't contact her.

I called my insurance his morning and finally got someone helpful. She was able to link the name to the registration and get an address! She also agreed that I had helped them sufficiently with getting the other drivers details and so started a claim. Got a call from them at lunchtime to say my claim has been accepted and they will be paying for towing fees etc too. Car is getting assessed within the next few days, then I will hear from them again.

I will keep you informed on what the outcome is.

    Thanks for all the support

the police should of given you a job number it starts with a P, you should be able to just give the job number to the insurance company as they can access everything they need from the police just by using the job number. i found this out on weekend when had learner drivers car fly through my garage taking out my coupe.

  2. Holy crap - I drove past this morning, noticed the cops and the smashed in garage doors and wondered what the hell was going on. That really sucks :(

Anyway if you ever go back down this route Classic Cover have a special "restoration" policy that covers this sort of incident, which amounts to something like $15 a month, for peace of mind.

I also said it in the other insurance thread but it pays to have an independent valuation of your vehicle in a hard copy. Think you can still get them done even after the car's been damaged and you'll have to provide supporting evidence for your claim, e.g. prove that HR31 coupes are a rare vehicle, and research what they are selling for in Japan. As kiwi808 suggests, you may also be able to talk to mechanics and car club representatives to build up a "case" which you can then present to the right people.

    Good luck!

Cheers have feeling im gonna need all luck i can get. The drivers insurance said over the phone they will fix it, im gonna talk to the boss tomorrow as i work for a big panel shop, but have never had to deal with any insurance for my own cars, i just fix peoples crashed cars lol. I can get a whole car out of japan for about $8000 landed un complied in factory stock form none turbo, mine is factory rb20det. My boss is pretty respected in industry so he can get insurance to do what he wants lot of time as he has owns 3 of the biggest gold seal approved panel shops in West Auckland.

  3. They will have to repair your car, but you are going to have a hard job proving its value.

Do you have receipts for the $20k it owes you?

no i have had the car a very long time and have lost most of the receipts,

  4. This morning i had a lexus is300 crash through my garage door psuhing my r31 coupe few meters forward in to another parked car and had all my tools and parts fall of the shelf's on to the skyline, my r31 was being worked on so had not insured it as it wasnt being used on road and was in a what i thought was safe alarmed garage. The driver was a learner driver but has full cover insurance.

What i need to know is how do insurance companys value older car's as on there web sites they say my r31 is worth about $1100 as its a 1986, i have spent about 20g on car including purchase price.

I have talked to the drivers insurance company and they said they will fix the car, but they didnt seem to realise how hard it is to get parts for an r31 coupe and how much damage has been done to the car, so im expecting it to be a write of.

  6. Pictureless update but just had the factory wireing for fuel pump replaced as it had started to melt lol, new pump was drawing way to many amps for the small factory wire. Should be able to get a better tune out of it now as fuel pressure was all over the show. Was lucky it didnt catch fire.

  7. Good man I'm glad it went to someone who could use it :)

Yeah he comes from a well know family of panel beaters who own lot of classic American cars, so it will be back on road in not to distant future, aparently gonna be the mrs car. He also just got a 1939 nash thats a 2 owner car for a cheep to, it was a failed repaint that never happend.

  8. Interesting story about the Metropolitan, It was a fully restored labour of love car ready for revin, the certifier took one look at it and ordered cameras to be put inside the bulkhead and chassis, old welds everywhere, decided it was unrepairable and told the fella it would never go back on the road, $10K up the spout!

He just stripped the parts and scrapped it.

Personally I would have kept it for an ornament, old fella decided he didn't want to look at $10k wasted!!!!

    Shame

just thought id fill in some blanks on this one, my mate bought the nash from zebra. he has another one even more rusty with rego on hold, he foud the guy who owned it before it went to zebra and bought all the parts. my mate is going to build one good car out of the two.

  9. Main reason im thinking of fitting them is cos the rims im running are spaced right out on rear so lot of tyre is showing, so it throw's stone's up a bit when driveing. There is a side skirt kit that you could get of nissan for them but very hard to get now.

  10. I havent seen or heard of one near me with a 1jz, mine did once have a kit on it but found some good factory bumpers and sold of kit. I know there is a guy with a stock standard black one down spamfarm ways, he may have done an engine swap havent talked to guy in few years.

  11. This is my 1986 hr31 coupe project. Iv had the car for about 6 years now and been plagued with problems ever since buying it, but havent given up yet. As it sits it has an R32 rb20det with front faceing intake a Turbonetics T3/T4 a Megga squirt ECU,GTR 440 injectors and all normal bolt on junk. When it gos it gos pritty good was meant to be makeing just under 400hp at wheels at 20psi acording to tuner who did ECU install.
