  1. Yea you just won't find a 5 speed that bolts to the old style R series motors easily, im unsure if there even is one. normal stuff like t50's and w50's don't work unless you custom made a bell housing.

dont supose you could position the new gearbox where you wanted it, measure etc etc and chop the bellhousing off the original gearbox and weld it to the new ones bellhousing?

I think making some sort adapter plate may be the way i might do it. Spencer you have an rt40 don't you ?

  2. how come you want to go 5spd? if your keeping the 2r its not gonna be a huge powerhouse or all that good for open road anyway

although i can fully understand wanting to keep the 2r, must be a pretty rare engine and thats quite cool.

It's actaully not to bad on the open road it does 100k pretty well but having another gear would make it even better. I don't know what else toyota put the 2r in apart from some of the rt5* coronas and some forklift haha

  3. please excuse my noobness it the first car i've ever mucked around with !

Unless your changing the engine you are not going to find a 5 speed that easily bolts in place of that.

I really want to stick to with the 2r but i know it won't be easy

definitely weird gearboxes. a t50 will bolt directly to the rt40 gearbox cross member and mount and you can also put the rt40 shifter back into the t50 box with spacer plate and you end up with a rather long short shifter. tuneel needs a slight bit of love and wouls need some weird tricks to get the t50 to bolt up to the 2r.

i can suply pics if need be. putting a 4age into my brothers rt40

Yeah they are!  That's good to know about the t50 bolting in place on the cross member and also about shifter

  4. Good day to you,

In this poor photo i have in all it's glory the 4 speed gearbox that came out of my rt40 corona.

what i'd love to know is what is it ? w40 t40 etc or how to find out. then adding to that what would

be the best 5 speed box to take it's place ?

    Many thanks keith

  6. Huro there,

My old man is apart of the V.C.C (Vintage Car Club NZ) here in canterbury. He's been going to the McLeans Island Swap Meet for yonks and i've been going since I was about 4 years old and always (apart from last two years) in his 1957 Ca Bedford with a big tan camper body on it that him and my grandad made back in the day. But anyway theres not a hell of alot jap stuff but i did happen to spot these two things that i brought !

What year/model would this badge be off ??

I like it ! it's a cool wee badge but i don't have anything to put it on so if you do and want to buy it, hit me up ! it's a bit rough but a good clean up would make it look alot better ! If not i'll put it on wall or something ! :D

With the wheels, the guy i bought them off said they came on a s1 rx7 he imported from japan in 86' which he recently sold to some museum but they just wanted the original wheels. He seemed to think they are rare ? I'd love to know more about them like if they are rare or if not, how old are they, where there from etc I really don't know much about them

    Cheers keith
