  1. Now getting a consistent 14.2 at rev, 14.1 at idle

    Motor off battery shows 13.4V.

Still no crank over on start up attempt, buzzing from relay box appears to be the mechanism repeatedly engaging (Starter relay in fuse box).

Is this a problem? Should it be a constant engagement until starter is disengaged via ignition barrel?

  2. Very big chur to rxtoy for coming all the way across town to give me a hand with this.

I've got the new alternator and voltage reg in now, battery reading 13.2 at idle up to 14.05~ at revs.

Still not cranking over at all, crash starts no problem. Gonna wait until battery healthy and then try lights, stereo loading and see if I get the same issues.

  3. Sorted!

... the earth to chassis had come off due to our favourite type of crimp being used. Hard to notice at for some reason buddy had it bolted under the battery tray.

    Cheers fellas!

    Edit: fuuuuuuuuuu

Problem persists... parked on the hill for crash start in the morn, further investigation will follow tomorrow.

  4. Hi lads,

I'm over in Perth, riding quite dirty in my new daily hilux, and it's shit the bed!

I drove to work sweet, parked up. Knocked off and tried to start her up and got a faint click sound with no response.

Jumped it and it fired straight up (I have since checked the battery and have 12.3V so battery does not appear to be the culprit). I was in a covered parking building so flicked on the headlights, and it dies straight away. Turning key to ign and on position now gives a buzzing sound from inside head relay (which I assume is for headlights). Jumped it once more and drove home without using headlights (it's 4pm over here don't fret).

Checking continuity on both head relay and starter relay (both large box style fuse relay thingies with four prongs) gives one pair of prongs a pass and one pair a fail on continuity in each relay (so a total of two prong pairs are showing no continuity but I am unsure if they are supposed to show this or not).

Couple other observations which may give clues are that engaging turn signal and/or brake lights kills the head unit while driving but not motor, head unit flickers while driving, and headlights completely kill motor even if in gear and giving it gas. Bump starting is successful. Alarm and immobiliser still working.

Aussies are pretty straight laced fuckers so I am hoping to figure this out on my (our) own as I don't know any auto sparkies who will help me out in exchange for hookers or blow.

Anyone out there feel like they can shed some light??

  5. Oh Gawd!

So I went to view both of these cars today and fuck! Theyre both pretty damn mint, the sunny (an early round light 310) a bit more so than the gem (also early round light).

The only two things making me lean towards the gem at this point are the uniqueness of it, and the practicality of a wagon.

The Sunny however seems to moot these points well. It has an excellent 5 speed behind the A12 that the seller will tack on for 500 (they seem to go for 700-900 out here if in good nick as this one is). Also, the b310 has a fucking enormous hatch area, it's quite deceiving from out side, but I don't think I will have any problem putting my surfbort etc in the back. Interior is stock, mint and working fully on both. Sunny has tach, gemini no.

It's also virtually a one owner (typical little old lady spec) car before the current. The other things pushing me towards the sunny are the aftermarket support for body, suspension and engine.

And sunny is 114.4, gem is 4 x 100. Sunny wins here too.

Hnnnnnng... Sunny is winning so far.

  7. I know the discussion is currently on flurbos and blowie values but lets be real, the big issue here was quietly mentioned a few pages back and no one said anything... disappointing.

    ...

I also decided, to cut down on costs, to run the 17's its already on, so will probably get it certed on them.

    Mean.

    Regards, VG.

VG i want you to have my 14" cragar steelies for this for the low low price of 100 south pacific pesos just so I can sleep easy knowing you aren't rolling around the 'tane on scummy 17's like it was two thousand and five just livin your la vida loca.

    Do it man.

  8. Yes sideways I totally missed this but am keen. Are they in good nick?

And yes that was me in ruakaka, was working at Marsden for quite a while, but home now in the mighty BOP.

On another note I found out exactly why toyota tax is a thing...

A while ago (about a year now haha) I noticed a dip in performance when it started running on 3 cylinders, figured I'd just keep running it til it died but hasn't yet. Had a fiddle with it today and found it holds 0 psi in #3, but still goes sweet as and passed a vtnz wof this arvo!

  9. Hmm it's been a while since I updated this...

Long story short, got the frost plug thing sorted and then 2 days later my missus cooked the motor while on a roadtrip with her mates.

    *facepalm*

Got it home and eventually found another E13 motor.

Did all the usual stuff, waterpump, gaskets, plugs, and some gearbox bits, then slapped it in and went for a hoon.

Drove it like that for a few months, then wof time came around and it failed on the old 110/90/R12 tyres being perished as well as a bit of rust that seems to have really taken off now that it lives a couple blocks from the sea.

So I got a set of 14x6.5 Heroes Racing and some 185/60 tyres to replace the 12x5 cheviots and increase the rolling diameter at the same time. And have nearly finished taking care of the rust (which was down by the door hinges on both sides).

It goes heaps better with the bigger tyres, and running a gps in it shows that the speedo is actually more accurate now than it was so I'm guessing it's alot closer to the factory set up now than it was.

Next thing to do is get it a bit lower.

  11. Hey buds,

I'm finally getting round to chucking some rims at my hilux and need to locate some tires that will give me a nice look without losing too much wheel diameter. The ute is only a four speed and has a pretty short diff so going smaller aint really an option.

I have 15x7 -15 rims going on out the back, and 14x6 @0 going on the front. Currently running a light truck tyre on a 14" steel rim, something like an 85 or 185? I'll check.

Any suggestions on profile, width, brand etc are welcome. Cheers!
