  1. I have one. . . . .somewhere? Think its in storage 380kms away.
  2. Overnight parts from Japan: ...Well not quite, 3 days So much better than the horrible POS honeycomb grill Soo my partner *Aimee* and I have found a new house with a decent sized garage! So can finally get some decent work done on the car and prepared for some goodies over the cold winter we are most likely inline for in Christchurch.
  3. Not currently working as I got laid off so until I find another job the HR30 has been getting alot of attention! Decided not to use the Trust manifold as it sits the turbo a bit too low for my liking since I am using a Holset and they require alot of oil and big drains, it leaves stuff all height/angle for a good return. Using a ported factory manifold, its cast steel as opposed to iron so alot easier to weld, pre heated it a bit before welding just to make sure. Root pass etc etc, done by Mig. Have bought a Turbosmart progate 50mm vband to be used: The ugly piece of shit grill has also been removed and will be replaced with a S1 DR30 grill from yahoo auctions: New hotness:
  4. Started striping the L20ET and prepare it for removal. Before I took it off the road, it started going through quite alot of water so suspected head gasket since these motors are notorious for that, but after a really good look i'm completely confused, head gasket is good, all the frostplugs are too as well as all hoses sooo......the fuck? Turbo wasn't water cooler either.
  5. Meh, i'm over iron masks now. Can keep it
  6. On the hunt for a DR grill, those HR30 "honey comb" grills really are quite foul. . . .
  7. Yes sir, that sounds about right! Has done the rounds. I bought it in bits, pretty much reassembled it, fixed a few bits and pieces then got it WOF n REG...2 months later, its off the road for moar power
  8. Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/47561-karls-1982-hr30-skyline-coupe/ Been awhile since I have logged in. Finally got the time to create a thread I've owned it since June/July last year from memory, it has just been painted when I got it and hadn't been assembled. Pretty much all I have done since then is assemble it, put a new engine in as the l20et it came with was pretty worn and had a good 2" caking of shit in the sump so out it went. Currently has another L20ET in it which will be coming out shortly, getting a L28 turbo built for it at the moment and well have a few goodies on it like a genuine Trust turbo manifold and a Holset HX40 with T4 .82 Garrett turbine housing. Maybe stroker but still undecided. Have had it advertised a couple of times but can't bring myself to selling it. love/hate affair. Few other things that have been done: -Port matched manifolds -VG30/rb20det hybrid turbo -Carter lift fuel pump with surge tank, tank cleaned and resealed. Walbro 255 fuel pump -Tomei adjustable fuel pressure regulator -3 core alloy radiator -XR6 Turbo intercooler -HD clutch and machined flywheel, uprated pressure plate -3" down pipe with bung for wideband to 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust -16x8 RS8 Watanabes with nt05 tyres -Nardi Torino steering wheel -Recaro bucket seats -S13 front brakes and hub carriers with s13 body adjustable suspension. -Adjustable suspension in the rear, R33 fronts which are also body adjustable Few other things like gauges. Now for the pictures of how it is sitting at the moment: Exhaust has now been fixed, no longer sits that low Photo taken in Kaikoura Car is currently REG and WOF, being driven daily. EDIT: Now off the road with no wheels So, a few details on the new engine build: -L28 N42 block and head -Undecided on pistons and rods, got access to a LD28 crank so its a possiblity, wont be going anymore than 89mm if i do. -Greddy turbo manifold and 50mm HKS wastegate -Holset HX40 turbo with T4 twin pulse .82 turbine housing. Going to get it cleaned up. Good ol' Yahoo auctions. Got a set of Volk Artisan 16x8 and 16x9 on the way, also a RB26 that was meant for the HR30 but no longer going into it. Some goodies arrived today! Holset HX40 turboand oversize pistons for the new engine:
  9. Will do man, going to be really interesting to see, alot of debate over spool time in comparison to Garrett BB turbos, HX40/H1E is very similar to GT40R. Since diesels run colder and exhaust gases move slower than a petrol engine, so Holsets have been designed to induce spool earlier apparently. Perhaps someone can add to that?? Yeah you can with a H1E compressor side, not too sure about HX40 since it is held together differently, gigantic clip as opposed to a V-clamp. http://www.1stgen.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3042 Or you could get a complete H1E and use the 12cm2 housing you have, has to be machined to fit since it has a bigger turbine wheel.
  10. Got stuck into it today, last night I attempted to put the new engine in, the blasted sump fouled quite badly on the steering rack!! LH engine mount wouldn't even line up, soo........out came a hammer haha. One of the welds split so rewelded that this afternoon, now the engine fits perfectly: Had to change the fitment of the intercooler, it would have fouled on the hood. Works out better anyhow, it won't interfere with the airflow for the radiator. Part number one to arrive: Fucking hell, what a nightmare it was to pull the turbine housing off. Combination of WD40, heat gun and a BFH " Big fucking hammer" it came off after a couple of hours, man these things are heavy duty as! Its in excellent condition, tons better than expected, won't bother rebuilding it until the engine has been run in, bound to get alot of crap in it.
  11. Haha I get asked that so often, they are long gone. Pitty they weren't 15", would have kept them.

  13. Discussion thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/36223-280zx-nzs-1983-datsun-280zx-t-top/ Came across 2x 280zx on trademe, one is in very good condition for its age, L28E 5 speed manual, Targa top, low k's, only done 180,000, mint untouched interior, 14x8" rims, little bit of rust, worst being in front of bonnet, needs to be reconstructed at some stage. Exhaust system was very rusty as you expect of a car of such age. It still has factory spare wheel that hasn't been inflated, tyre is compressed in, i'll take a photo. Jack and tool kit is untouched too, all of it looks new! The other 280zx, well, its far too gone, extremely rusted, but has some very useful and hard to get parts. Since then, I have done the following things: -Put in Black interior out of a JDM Fairlady Z -2.5" exhaust, lukey muffler,Twin 3" pipes attached to a 5zigen muffler. -17x9 and 17x9.5 Rota RBXs, 245/45/17 tyres all round -Recovered parceltray and surrounding bits to match the interior, it was covered in horrible grey carpet beforehand. -Bumpers are off a JDM fairlady Z, chrome parts aren't in the best of condition though. -Tail lights and Chrome between side windows are also off a JDM fairlady. Most likely left stuff out. Been a few months since I purchased it, here are some before photos: And these were taken just before Christmas: Still got to prep passengers side guard and touch up drivers side, the paint reacted with something in a couple of areas, I'm thinking the primer absorbed something. Was meant to have this ready a month ago but that didn't quite happen haha. In pursuit of more power, the running gear was ripped out and purchased a L28ETT that was on Trademe for a very nice sum of $500, freshly rebuilt, externally it wasn't the nicest but inside, clean as hell: The guy I got it off said it was a Early N42 block with a P90 head. Turns out it has a N42 head, very interesting bottom end setup. Looks to be a stock L28 crank with L24 rods and O5U oversize rb26dett pistons, according to the L6 series engine calculator, it has a CR of around 7.8:1. Over the last few weeks I had decided to ditch the weird twin turbo setup and go to a big single, Holset H1E, older version of a HX40 with a equal length twin scroll manifold which i'm getting started on shortly, workshop is hell of a mess. Engine has been cleaned up, got the old rustic powdercoat off and polished the rockercover: Removed webbing off the intake manifold and stripped the old paint off it: Turbo in the picture was one of the pair that came on it, unknown brand, construction of it is fairly good so not cheap Chinese shit, similar trim to a t04e 60. The other turbo was off a l20et This is how it is sitting at the moment, all rust was treated, etch primed etc: Only rust was under the battery tray. Quite a bit of the front was chopped off due to a accident, when I was pulling out the old engine the chain broke and it sort of came crashing down onto the radiator support, 2m in the air! Quite a thick chain too. Going to reconstruct it out of 1mm sheet metal and get it looking factory as possible with holes for intercooler piping, the passengers side already had a hole for the air box but none on the drivers side. Installed gauges, Innovative MTX-L wideband, 3x Autogauge gauges, boost, oil pressure and water temperature. So pretty much, the engine setup will be comprised of the following items/setup: -1mm steel headgasket -Bosch D-Jetronic 480cc injectors, RB20DET fuel pressure regulator -Holset WH1E turbo, 14cm2 turbine housing, roughly .096 AR. -Winged sump -Equal length twin scroll manifold fabricated out of sch40 mild steel, either 2x 38mm wastegates or a single 50mm. -Methanol injection -V6 commodore throttlebody -Megasquirt ECU, fuel only for the moment. -Modified distributor, shortened shaft to clear throttle body and advance locked. Aiming for around 350hp Waiting on parts to arrive from the U.S before I can do anything more. There are so much more photos and info but can't be assed with it at the moment, i'll add some more later.
