hey guys ive been offered a mk1 escort shell and unsure how much to pay for it.
heres the main points about it.
its a bare shell with just the doors and windscreen
has no plates
has been in the rain for three years so is abit rusty in the usual places
is pretty straight
is a 2 door!
what you reckon it would be worth and how much should i pay?
im looking for a shell for my next project
-
well im pretty sure engine is toast. but shes got a wof now time to go back to drawing board!
-
BUT................
day of cannonball run and the car was stickered up ready to go
we heading up to aucks at 6am and noticed the car was really low on power for a 1600 which we thought was a tad odd but we carried on and made it to the start line.
after 3 odd hours of driving and we had just started hitting the first hill of the coromandel and poof! running on 2 cylinders banging and popping away pull over to find oil everywhere!
we clean up the engine bay and find the crankcase is preasuring up and blowing the oil out the filler neck and dipstick hole! but only when the motors under heavy load??
so we turn round, roll down the hill and make the slow crawl home
so sadly its either rebuild or shop for a new motor by the looks. from what i can guess my rings are rooted as the filler neck is chuffing BIG time
oh well she looked good i reckon!

hey guys
small update that will follow with pics soon.
ive now got the motor running mint and the glass all in. all ive got left to do it the drivers seat bolts, bleed the brakes then its off to hamilton for a exhaust and a wof!!
car is currently getting a rush prep for the Cannonball run thats taking place in aucks next weekend so once it survives the run itll go back in the shed for the tidy up etc but for now ill be happy to just have it running on the road.

does anyone have an old foot pump for the washer system??
-
to be honest im only guessing its got a electric one. its a 74 so could be either!
anyone have an idea on what my random wires are for?
-
ive got one small problem. i cannot find the wires for the windscreen washers in the engine bay? anyone know where i will find them??
could this be the wires for the switch inside?
any advice would be great!!
-
update time
worked on the car this weekend and got the engine bay all wired up no worries, BUT as always was just testing that the starter motor is wired up right the motor turned over once and then seized tight! FFS!!!
So we ripped out the motor that was supposed to be a mint runner, then as i removed the gearbox i find a pink rag wrapped around the whole shaft, clutch and flywheel jamming it solid. FFS!!!!
See the rag in pink above
well motors fine so put it back in and wired it all up and tested it and it now turns over loverly
now all i have to do is finish the custom throttle linkage, fill it with oil and water and hook the clutch up and thats the engine bay done!
BUT ive got one small problem. i cannot find the wires for the windscreen washers in the engine bay? anyone know where i will find them??
could this be the wires for the switch inside??
any advice would be great!!

well small update time
didnt get the car done for xmas but am getting closer ive now only got afew things left like windows, exhuast and finishing off the wireing in the engine bay. have booked a full day off work so i cannot get bugged by the wife and get some work done for a change!
have just bought myself a set of coby extractors that will go with the new system thats being made as soon as its running.
also ordered some new toys from the uk like a short shifter, quater bumpers and a full nut and bolt kit so ive got nice new shiney spares!
another update and hopefully on the 11th
