Popular Post BEAMSing Posted September 21 Popular Post Posted September 21 I am a few months into putting together an Altezza as a sort of period correct/semi respectable drift car of sorts, and realised I hadn't really documented the process in any meaningful capacity. So here we are, my misadventures in internet forum post form. Here's a short run down Car is an ex-skid car, owned by (several) questionable individuals in it's time before me, and as such a decent amount of work has been required in the process of getting it back into shape. My goal is to get car cleaned up and presentable. Will also be modifying car in line with the vision I have for it. I am by no means a master mechanic, but trying to give it all a crack myself either way. Have learned a lot so far, and I am excited to learn even more going forward! 10 Quote

lowlancer Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Interested to see where this lands. Not sure how to avoid it, but these regularly have the worst sounding exhaust note on this planet. Might need @Roman level antics to fix. 1 Quote
Roman Posted September 21 Posted September 21 My theory on the beams exhaust noise is this: 1. The factory exhaust manifold with the very short primaries and long secondaries, makes for a pooey sound. A good long pipe 4-1 or 4-2-1 goes a long way. 2. I noticed with my car that the car sounded a lot worse, when the engine had hardly any ignition timing. The exhaust sounds rougher and louder. I suspect that with the high km cars with factory ECU, they probably have blown knock sensors and the ECU pulls all of the timing out. So they sound like dogshit. 3. There is a variable flap in the factory muffler that rattles after a while. So people swap it out, and put on something worse thanks to issues 1 and 2 above. The factory intake manifold is really good though and they can make a cool carb sort of induction noise when setup alright. 4 Quote
Roman Posted September 21 Posted September 21 There are a few really cool beams projects floating around, my favourites are the AE86 of @Truenotch: And @Hyperblade's starlet before he Honderized it (Still cool haha) 1 Quote
xsspeed Posted September 22 Posted September 22 no hate cos altezzas are a guilty pleasure, but what is a period correct altezza build? And do you need help choosing your sex spec livery? 2 Quote
