mikey Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Have to say, I loved the first post on your build thread. Classic Gonzo journalism right there 👌  P.S looks like I started your disco thread for you @RUNAMUCK  Link to Build Thread 2 1 Quote

NickJ Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Mate, she looks to be in far better condition that 90% of the road legal 510s? drop the motor back in and do some skids! 1 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Thanks for the kind words team! Much of the coming updates will just be pictures of the parts I've accumulated thus far for it. (And even more likely the lengthy but oddly captivating sharns surrounding their acquisition....... Edit, @mikey, could you please drop a link to the build thread in the first post. Chur! 5 Quote
yoeddynz Posted September 9 Posted September 9 I never realised you had one of these. Or actually you've possibly told me but I have plain forgotten because memory like a sieve. Looking forward to amazing, progress filled updates from now on  1 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Having a build thread actually encourages not only doing something to a project, no matter how small, but to take a picture, and treat it as an opportunity to shitpost. (If I could build cars as proficiently as I can shitpost, I'd be George Barris tbh) 4 1 Quote

RUNAMUCK Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Even that tee shirt has a time line. It was a "good" tee shirt at one time. Then I wore it snowboarding in '06. (I got kicked out of the holy grail that night) it stayed in a bag with my snowboarding gear for a very long time. (I was wearing it under [BLACK FAGGOT] at osn 2011. Although by the time of this picture, ot was obviously relegated to a garage shirt. 2 Quote
mjrstar Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Very cool. I swooned for a 510 around a similar era, I didn't get kicked out of the holy grail but did need to have a chat to the constabulary outside the holy grail after a trip back from Antarctica, this was 2004 we took Ed Hilary down to cut a ribbon.. but whatever I digress, i had the opportunity to purchase a running driving 510 with fj20 for 2k but even 20+ years ago rust was a major concern. I was balls deep in the 6 cylinder turbo starlet, my first vtec honda and had my mini so fleet size was becoming a problem. Alas my Datsun story ends there... but yours continues!  Tl:dr I await the sr20det conversion. 7 Quote
dmulally Posted September 10 Posted September 10 About 15-20 years ago I road rallied a 510 for a weekend. For a car with twin DCOE's it was surprisingly efficient and was a well balanced car. Really couldn't fault it. I had a 1972 alfa GTC 1750 at the time and that felt like a slug by comparisson. CA18 and 5 speed if it were mine. 3 Quote

MACKAZ Posted September 17 Posted September 17 2nd dirt car I raced (first one owned, serviced and raced by a 16 year old with zero outside help) was a 510 in worse condition than your prime example there. Done 6 seasons prior to my ownership. Original L16 and 4 speed with a suitably collapsed rear suspension. Won my first race in that car against grown adults (15 was minimum age back in the early 90s). Jumped out of that into an RX4 sedan and due to lack of traction was slower than the Datsun. Anyhow go Baart! 2 1 Quote
