How does brake residual pressure valve work?

Rx2 brake master has these one way valve things in both front and rear outlets. Took it apart a long time ago and can't remember how it goes back together. Manual is vague seems to suggest as pictured?

Hard to see how fluid gets past the cup to the line.

Are you doing a disc brake conversion on the rear? Or still drum

Im pretty sure the metal disc in the middle has a valve in the raised part that let's the fluid thru, it closes on return and the returning fluid has to push against the spring and go thru the outer rubber seal.

Yeah I can see how it works on return but how does fluid flow past it toward the caliper/drum? Maybe the pressure pushes the metal cone backwards against the spring instead of hard up against its seat, should have paid more attention in 5th form physics dammit.

Metal part is one piece with holes drilled around the outside.

I think I will leave it out on the front and install the rear one and see what happens.
