Right then. What the dickens do I do about this fucken thing? Open to ideas.

Requirements

Reliable

Good torque to get up hills and eat up the miles

Decent on fuel

Would prefer to avoid a billion wires and sensors. Just reading @ThePog's thread on his fiat gives me a headache. But if there were on the shelf simplified loom kits I'd be cool.

Has to fit in a rather tight engine bay. It's quite long but is pinched at the nose so a bit annoying.

Also has a distance of about 200mm (off the top of my head but I think less) from the bellhousing to the steering linkages so needs a very rear sump hump bump.

Discussed so far have been the AJ6, 4.2xk, TD27, QD32, M57, 1KZ, Barra, SBC, 3.8 ecotec.

Would prefer to adapt the original gearbox because it is a nice thing and can handle a decent amount of grunt with racing jag engines. Dunno about a 4 banger moot magnet vibrating away however.

Merc OM606 with a dpuk pump. 1 wire, 500hp on standard internals. Small straight 6 format

Sorted

Went down that rabbit hole with @chrisRand the om605.

Moon money. No chance that is under $10k all up including the pump and any fancy sumps. I dont know what a dpuk pump costs but I can't afford one.

I do like that it is one wire. Would prefer it to be less obviously.

I agree with the OM606 or even an OM602/662 5 cylinder for the cash savings.

They go surprisingly well even with the tiny factory turbo etc.

@dmulally What's in it at the moment? 3.8?

My experience is they go really well all things considered.

A 4.2 from a later xjs and some Chinese weber would be the cheapest way to make some power

/put a 1kz in it

Wonder if a manifold exists to put a 4bbl holley on a 4.2 . Or even a 500 cfm 2bbl would probably be more than adequate and return decent fuel economy

Then there "no cert"

(Cert results may vary)

Has the 3.4 in it now. Actually goes quite well and whatever the HP and torque it has now is adequate. Lord knows what that is but it aint the 250hp or whatever Jaguar said it had in the brochure. I think if it were matching numbers 3.8 Id just get it rebuilt. But it aint 3.8 nor matching numbers.

I love the sound of this aj16 but the wiring would be a disaster and the off the shelf ECU/looms cost more than the car.

I did think about that when losing the skin on my knuckles sorting the SU's and starter carb out. Sadly the engine is really close to the bonnet so I doubt a downdraft would fit and if making holes in the bonnet for downdrafts you'd need three to look cool.

Jag 6 is sub $1k

Emerald k6 (preconfigured) and loom is 900 euro plus shipping.

Trying to find someone to tune something non link-megasquirt-haltech, is the hard bit.

And lets forget the 5bazzilion dollars worth of crimp fittings, trans adaptors and mounts.

Jag is clearly the easy winner.

It has been done before but so have LS1's in there.

Here is a Mk2 which is the same as the S bay with an AJ6. Pretty tight.

Apparently they can be made to run on a dizzy and carbs but I dunno. A lucas ECU would be good fun.

BrokenKitty probably has the parts you need to fit the xdressing v8 of yours.

Go on.

Google BrokenKitty.

Do it.

The small block chev is a terrible engine. Simply awful.

Obviously it's on the list as I have one just sitting there.

You expect me to believe you only have one?

I was just thinking that. There are three...that I know of.

Probably more. Hopefully less.
