Thanks for all the likes in the Build Thread - keeps the motorvation up.

Need help with bolting up manifolds as bit of a prick with these headers that came with it.

Points are

- They do eventually sit flush with one another but i only found two bolts that are the correct 5/16 UNC so getting them on before putting the engine in didnt happen, Anyone knwo where to get these and the thick washers

- I have seen studs being used and then nuts instead of bolts - benefits? or just go to blacks and get high tensile bolts? Both Enford and Palmside only had stud and nut for the intake side of a crossflow escort style engine.

- Do these headers usually take a bit to get on together the outer two pipes feel like they need to go down about 5mm - which they might once a few bolts are in.

No experience with this setup specifically but I recall similar fun and games on a hillman hunter. I recall being stumped and about to throw my toys, and then realised that some could be studs but others had to be bolts as the way the manifolds slid into place mean studs made it impossible (one of the manifolds had to drop into place rather than slide in, meaning it needed bolts not studs)

Not saying it's the same for this, but something to be mindful of. Perhaps try finding a photo/figure of an original setup and using that as a guide?

^^^ What he says. Also, tubular manifolds that haven’t been used before sometimes need a bit of convincing at first fitting. If you can get them fitted up then they usually settle after a few heat cycles.

Used to bump around Nigeria in a Mk1 Cortina (1200 I assume) as a kid in the early 70s. Unsuitable for the conditions, it got stuck occasionally and the exhaust got scraped off a few times. That had a bench seat and column change.

a ha - ebay find two studs for the outer exhaust - bolts the rest, although I think they  are supposed to have those fat washers, not spring type
