Do you guys actually keep track of what your cars cost you?

I do keep track of fuel costs for all my cars.

I don't keep track other than thinking, can I justify this vs the value of the car and/or how much I like the car and how long I want to keep it.

But I also spread project car costs over a long period and don't pay labour by doing stuff myself like most people here, so I can justify (there goes that word again) the big ticket items by "saving" on labour.

I have never tracked fuel other than the occasional calculation of roughly how many km's I do in a week, but only when fuel prices were almost $4 a litre. At that point I thought, maybe a cheap leaf makes sense for the work commute, but then what's the point in having interesting old cars if I don't use them?

However in my Firearm Safe is an envelope to be opened on my death so my wife does not sell them for what I told her I paid for them.

When I bought my Commer, there were stacks of old notebooks going back decades  detailing every bit of work, funny noise, movement of the truck

 

You lose that with an app (or even digital notes)

Yeah, I get that. To be honest, I probably wouldn't buy a Leaf either if I already had some interesting old cars. Kind of defeats the point of owning them if you don't drive them

That's why I made manual backups. Here's how it works:

1. Enter all vehicle data and expenses

2. Press Create Backup

3. Save the backup on your phone, usv drive, hard drive, or wherever you want.

4. You can restore it at any time
