So I guess a stator and 'starting loom' off a Lifan will be whats needed with a CDI, Guess that is converting the Cub to 12v as well

I have a couply dead 90cc lifans hiding somewhere, could scrounge em off them?

I think the only thing that needs a bit of fab is making sure the pickup fits in the case You use the stator base, stator, flywheel and wiring. It's been a while since i've done one and had way too many bikes in between to be sure :D Prob just check the crank taper is the same for the flywheel.

So I have some bits, side covers, new tyres, tubes brakes for her. New rear brakes, tyre and tube fitted.

Front end will be done tomorrow or tonight

She ran like shite, gave her a good thrash around the block and she idles much smoother.

Im quite happy with her tbh

Headlight and tail light bulbs ordered. I need to fit a battery before I put bulbs in.. its why the og ones blew lol

Incase it was unclear, i was taking the piss, i am a firm believer in build it how you want to, not for anyone else.

I know you were, but I want to keep her looking OG as but at the same time safe and reliable

So I jammed a new 6v battery in and indicators and horn began working.

6v bulbs arrived today.

I bunged em in and fired her up. Gave her a little throttle and pop, no lights. I replaced em with a 12v led tail light and 12v incandescent headlight.

Went for a thrash and the low beam filament blew but not the high beam

I reckon the rectifier is shot. Any of you got an idea of what 6v rectifier to replace the selenium one with??

Remember when I said to fit a ballast resistor to your monkey to stop it popping bulbs?

Same thing with this.

Or if it's real old

I saw there was a wee thing that looks like a fuse holder under the battery retainer with nothing in it. Does this go inline with the battery?

The ballast goes anywhere on the AC power wire from the engine/to the lights, all it does is dump excess power to ground to protect bulbs etc.

Changing the selenium rectifier should make zero difference to most of the bulbs popping, all it does is crudely convert AC to DC and it's on a separate circuit to the head and tail lights.

Do you want to fix it the right way or the easy way? I'd suggest the easy way.

Throw some 12v bulbs up it and give it a rev and check what the voltage is. Try different combos - 6V front 12v rear etc and play with the wattages. I have 1 old 2t with a 24v rear and a 12v front.  As long as it isn't popping bulbs you're golden.

Pic for fred of the better cub.

Well I got a resistor similar to what you showed me @Raizer

I will plumb it in series with the headlight I guess. I have neglected this beast due to scooter safari, but it started 1st kick last night.

I will do a 10km ride on it tonight then ride it to work tommorow

Its currently getting 55kmh on the flat

Brake light is not working. I have a new switch somehere

Tail light is fine

Does anyone have a c50 leg shield for sale

she was stalling a lot at the lights, hard to start when warm, I have been told (by Barry at the petrol station)this is either a buggered condensor or the coil has a crack in it?

I did some google foo and it could have been my valve clearences were too tight, this made them not close fully.

As I have tools (but no condensor points or coil to replace) I adjusted them valves up to the looser end of the scale and it kinda helped, Idling is more even and it idles for longer without stalling.  There is no tappet noise so I am happy for now

However she is still hard to start at times, I do wonder if the rings are tired, although she does get up to 60kmh with no smoke

Next up is ordering points, coil and condensor as I bet these are original, the tyres and tubes were.

I do think the clutch is a bit stuck as sometimes she lurches when I put her into 1st then stalls and now and then she doesnt find 3rd (false neutral) when changing up, or 2nd when changing down (I have adjusted the clutch but it only helped a bit)

Still looking for a leg shield and a rear rack, or else I will make a rack for her

BUT I bit the bullet and rode her to School today

So last night I went for a night ride I realised the previous owner must have used a wiper switch for the headlight. The light was intermittent as fuck (i never noticed this in daylight)

I ripped it down and noticed sparks coming from a jiggly earth wire on the bulb holder.

I told the bike I was disgusted and went to bed.

Tonight I did lots

1) fix jiggly wire. No sparks

2) test voltage at bulb, 6v bike, 12V at idle, 30V when at 'annoy neighbour revs'

3) fit 25ohm resistor (@raizer)in series with headlight circuit.. still getting 24V

4) have a beer and a think

5) jeremy suggested earth issue so I made a piggy back to earth to frame.

Now Im getting 2.4V at medium RPM

6) Call Moray (@mo99)

He got me doing wizzy things with multimeter and looking at wires

Suggestion is charging coil is chooched

I have a parts motor I will pull one off and give it a hoon.

Pray for me, this is all new for this fella

So last week I tried to play auto electrician and it worked for a bit then didnt, then @mo999 gave me a hand and when he left all was working.

When I tried poking the battery in I musta popped a coupla wires and plugged it all in again then nothing worked.

Somehow I had AC entering the battery and chooched it so had have no horn or indicators.

Fast fwd to today and a 6-24v led bulb came from China.

Jammed it in and happy days!
