Was gonna fix her up for a mate, but he decided it was gonna cost too much.

Made him an offer and now its mine.

Sold my suzuki F50 and brought this pile.

So once she is warm, she runs well but  takes 100s of kicks when cold. She backfires but wont start until she does

Thinking:

Valves clearances

Timing

Points and / Condensor

All of which I dont know how to do, but I do have youtube.

When its warm it goes well but will eventually just die if left to idle for more than 2 min

What order do you suggest attacking my list? Is there anything more to add?

Certainly clean / check the points (and points gap) is the choke flap closing properly? It will definitely need choke to start when cold - does it start better with a shot of easy start?

When it's cold check for spark, and fuel. If it has both, a compression test might indicate valve issues.

Could be as simple as finding the choke position it needs to fire. If the plug is wet it could be flooding.

My CTs the same, takes a million kicks when cold. Pull plug and dry it and it normally gets going.

Hmmm I will be checking valves as it starts easy when warm, there is a little smoke, but this could be a rings issue.. borrowing a compression tester tomorrow morning, hoping its not rings just for the sheer buggery involved

Choke flap appears to be closing correctly.. off to google points check technique tonight..

Charge your battery? The old C50s need voltage to make them excited. They're better when up and running.

It has no battery, however a new one is waiting for pickup tonight, along with tyres and brakes

i would encourage a CDI upgrade on this bad boy if you feel like a challenge. Lifan parts should bolt on from memory.

just be aware the points that steppybits on TM and some others sell are pretty average reproduction units. A multimeter and a 6v bulb are really handy for timing them per the honda workshop manual.

So I guess a stator and 'starting loom' off a Lifan will be whats needed with a CDI, Guess that is converting the Cub to 12v as well

I have a couply dead 90cc lifans hiding somewhere, could scrounge em off them?
