Ah gotcha gotcha.

What was the ECUs complaints about O2 sensors?

It said something like the percentages were out of spec? I assume the cats not heating up as quick as the OEM one or its not catalyzing as good so the difference between pre and post cat sensors is too great?  I think when I get it tuned they can edit this?

You drove past me during the week, has a surprisingly deep exhaust note

It is quite throaty for a 1.4L, just has a gross resonance between 2-3k rpms.

Speaking of which, and while im here, on Thursday night I snuck another resonator in, its only made it very slightly quieter unfortunately, but has made a huge difference to the horrid fart/rasp, its really taken the edge off. I might try a couple of little inserts in the tips to see if it quites it down a bit. Just for early morning cold starts really, its not too bad to drive as is.

Pics just cos,

ALSO, the cruise system warning comes up every few days, and ive just been clearing it with the dongle/phone. It works perfectly before the warning comes up, and obviously started straight after fitting the IC, so I'm wondering if having the huge chunk of ali right next to it is upsetting it. I'm thinking of spacing the sensor forward a bit to see if it helps? Cant think what else would cause it?

Wife's one had some fault like that and was a dirty windscreen.

I did see that was a cause sometimes, my windshield is pristine. Pretty sure its the lower sensor. I might have to ask Ben nicely to hook it up to his fancy reader and see if its more specific about the code/problem.

So the fabulous Benjamin had a peek at the fault codes, and it turns out even though it whinges about the cruise system, it is actually the oxy sensors causing the engine check light etc. He tried his best to explain it all to me, basically new cat cause on/off switch 2nd oxy sensor to on/off at wrong time and ECU no like. He lent me an oxy sensor spacer, which is a right angle male/female doofer that holds the sensor out of the exhaust flow and buys you some time on the switching to trick the ECU into being content. And by George its only bloody worked! Have done about 6 heat cycles without triggering a warning.

I spoke to a tuner in TGA that Ben recommended (dtech Motorsport) they have never tuned this model swift before but reckon they can, they wanted me to take the car over to see if they can get into the brains of it and fiddle about, and then they had to check something with a software guy. I asked if this can all be done on the same day and they said yes, so I'll book a day off and pop over possibly at the end of the month. But damn, I haven't had a car tuned for like 17 years, its gone up in $$$ a bit. They will also delete the problematic code so I can take the spacer out.

I also want to sort some wheels out for this thing, I really have my heart set on some chunky white 5 spoke wheels, like a 90s WRC car, but options seem to be very limited as I cant go very wide. 17x6.5 ET50 is standard, I'm looking to go 18x7 or 7.5 or 8 max, with ET35 or 40. The multi spoke in white also look not bad.

Dave at dtech knows what he's doing, highly recommended in the race scene, he often remote tunes cars down here (chch), and people take cars up specifically to get tuned by him.

You should be able to fit an evo spec 17x8 at 38p with a 215 45 17

I dunno about an 18 you'll probably need very minimal tyre profile at that diameter.

Probably also depends on how much slam-dog-millionaire you are aiming for.

The springs I got are only 35mm drop, so not super slammed, said springs came from this car:

17s will be fine, just thought 18s might look more WRC, ha. These are on fairly wide 18s:

Get 18s, i have 18x7.5, ET is like 45 or 48, RE003 225/40r18 on my note, the rolling diameter is like 3% greater than factory but its fine. Mine is still tucked though, not like the poke above

Does this largely eliminate the designed in factory speedo error?

Yeh them pictured swifts have too much poke, looks a bit odd on that style of car. 18x7.5 et40 or 45 would be ideal I reckon.
