Bearded Baldy Posted July 19 Author Posted July 19 Managed to tighten the belt on the lathe a fracky and made a mess. Plug all tapped in and clamped up. Of course once i parted the plug section off the main chunk, it was in between the sizes for the chuck with the jaws either standard or reversed. Good news is the fairings will hide all sins. If i get another sunny day tomorrow i might even make some gaskets and fit the emmision blankers. Already feeling 3 months ahead of schedule though. 4 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted July 25 Author Posted July 25 Talked my fingers into being helpful today, these plates were far more of a bastard to fit than they needed to be. I blame the weather, definately was not due the fact i refused to remove the radiator to get better access. (Squint and look for the little shiny bits) Put radiator mounts and oil cooler back on with the new grille, as usual need to buy some nicer bolts, everything i touch on this bike seems to have been reassembled using whatever was close enough to reach, very annoying as at this rate i will have spent as much on bolts etc as the rest of the parts. 5 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted August 1 Author Posted August 1 Wind was blowing straight into the shed today but there was a bit of sun so i manned up and went out to try get the carbs back in. Managed to warm up the manifold boots enough to slowly walk the carbs in with no breakages. In my infinite wisdom i left the cables on the bike, so spent a solid 45 minutes in the failing light bumbling with a torch and a piece of welding wire to slot them in. Got there in the end, even with the throttles jammed open didn't help my fat fingeredness. The airbox was being a right bitch so i have now called it a day, and will drop the hair dryer in it tomorrow to soften things up a bit. I am sure i heard something plastic by the airbox break and fall down, but i can only see the remains of a pushclip so hopefully thats all it was. 2 Quote
Popular Post Bearded Baldy Posted August 2 Author Popular Post Posted August 2 Snuck out to the shed this morning and got the airbox sorted, new K&N filter fitted, then looked over my handiwork..... Well. Fuck. Procrastinated sorting that issue out by reassembling the twistgrip and adjusting the cables. I have ordered a hanging fuel tank to use when balancing the carbs, but due to not wanting to sort out the loose hose issue, i figured i had better go though my brass fitting stash and make a tee fitting since each pair of carbs has its own supply line off the tap. And of course i have used the best sized junction for something else haha. Bit of aluminium, some measurement free lathework and some of the most suspect crossdrilling i have ever done later i ended up with this. Running out of things to do meant i next lay on the ground to sort the hose out. And both the hose and its clamp went straight on. Wtf. Now having celebratory beers with the guard dog. 10 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 Rigged up the aliex fuel tank and put in half a litre of fuel, should have put in more as it barely filled the bowls.... But it runs! Even better now i remembered to blank the vacuum port. Tank even came with hose clips and a tap! Not bad for about $35. 4 Quote

Well guess who had to use a car battery and jumper leads because his quadbike battery won't hold charge anymore! So looks like i have to buy at least one now haha. 1 1 Quote
