Popular Post sheepers Posted March 13 Author Popular Post Posted March 13 Did a bit more on the thing. The immediate goal it to paint the bottom of the body and paint the chassis so I can put the body back in the chassis for the final time. With this in mind I'm not going to spend too much more time finishing inside the boot and I'm going to concentrate on what underbody work needs doing before I can paint. Rust. It's Rust I'm talking about. There's really fuck all Rust needs doing to this car because it's actually the least rusty one I've come across in the last 15 years or so but there is still work that needs doing. Spare tyre well had been replaced at some point, was a bit shit looking and the inner wheel house needed some fixing so I cut the whole lot out. Started making the new bit, still a bit to do but it's a good start. I'll make the outer skin when I do the body work on the outside of the car. For now I'll leave the flange on the new piece unattached to the outer skin. 19 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted March 15 Author Popular Post Posted March 15 did a bit more. i made the vertical panel but i wasn't happy with it so i threw it in the bin and made a new one. this one fits better. i haven't finished the welding yet but its almost all done, its looking pretty good and ive got the slight curve in it like the original one. yay. 31 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted March 29 Author Popular Post Posted March 29 the other side inner guard was a bit rusty so i cut it off and made a new one. then it was time for a bit of etch primer then underseal. that all came out super good, looks fucking ace. now its time to paint the bottom of the body green/body colour. i also lifted up the chassis so i could put another coat of black on it before it goes back under the car. 24 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted March 31 Author Popular Post Posted March 31 Then I painted it green. Impossible to see in the phone pix what colour it actually is but I like it. Is fucking close to the original (probably ?) And it looks good. 29 Quote

Popular Post sheepers Posted April 4 Author Popular Post Posted April 4 Painted the firewall. Really badly. I had the bigger tip in my colour gun from when I was painting the textured underseal on the bottom of the car. Forgot to change it back. Result is more runs than a 5 day test match and its all splotchy and shit looking. It might settle as it dries but also it might not. Can't win them all...... 23 Quote

Popular Post sheepers Posted April 13 Author Popular Post Posted April 13 The brand new carburetor i bought about 6 years ago needed all the fucked things (mainly due to being badly made in China) fixed on it before it could disappoint the human race on an engine. So I did that Then I had to make a new water neck thing because the 55 year old one is rusty for some reason. I made a new one out of stainless so it might last another 55 years. Then I painted the inlet manifold and bits. One of these days I'll find out if this engine actually runs. 31 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted April 22 Author Popular Post Posted April 22 Rebuilt the starter. Put new bearings in it and cleaned up the contacts. Gave it a coat of paint and a bit of grease. Hey presto - brand new! It even turns the motor. 16 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted April 24 Author Popular Post Posted April 24 Got the shitbox running. Seems happy. Got it up to temp twice and the radiator is not yet full of oil so I'm calling that perfect. It's got two water leaks, both of them in place i welded so yay for the beach. I'll have to pull it to bits and fix them but yea whatever, not a biggie. China carburetor is currently working so I'm going to assume it's perfect for ever. I'll probably piss about doing some reassembling of things like brakes and heater fan next. 27 1 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted April 26 Author Popular Post Posted April 26 Started painting shit. Made some brake lines, gave the heater blower a birthday as well as the windscreen wiper motor. 13 Quote
Popular Post sheepers Posted April 27 Author Popular Post Posted April 27 Just spent WAAAAAYYYYY to long rebuilding the clutch master. The clutch felt really heavy and kinda bottomed out to early, it was all a bit weird So anyway when I pulled it out the pushrod circlip had come out of the groove and was just floating, the piston ejected itself with quite a bit of force, which is strange. Turns out it had been assembled wrong and a washer was in the wrong place basically halving the space for the spring. The spring was binding and the extra pressure ejected the circlip. Luckily I have hoarded many factory repair manuals so I had a full exploded diagram to show when the washer was supposed to go. I would make new clutch hard lines to finish the clutch completely but my flaring tool shit itself. 24 Quote
