2eepy Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 I apologize as this will draw out.... how should I post images, link my drive? 1 Quote
Roman Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 Hey, you can post images directly to the site. Just click "choose files" when you make a new post. Looking forward to seeing how this car develops! 1 Quote
kws Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 This is cool. I like boxy cars, look forward to seeing more of it. 1 Quote
Stu Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 So good to see another EP71 tragic! Can't wait to see the build and was awesome to see this at the drags! 1 Quote
kws Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 Oh heck yeah, I'm friends with the original builder of the donor Corolla. Wondered where it ended up, and so excited to see it being revived in a starlet! 1 Quote
Thphantum Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 You had me at "Tercel". Don't suppose you kept any of the paperwork? 4 Quote

Don't suppose you kept any of the paperwork? The Turtle was a blessing Paper work from the Turtle or the Starlet? The Starlet was nana spec so has a manual and a stack of wof sheets etc in the door pocket Quote

I have done this, let me know if it doesnt work, I reduced the size of all my originals then uploaded them... cheers dude, such a fun little car... was only meant to be a daily *famous last words* 1 Quote
Roman Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 I had a bog stock EP70 and it was hilariously good fun to drive. It would lift off oversteer like crazy, lucky I had that 45hp to help pull it back straight! I've always wanted a factory turbo one of these, they look sooooo cool. Steel wheels definitely gotta go! You can get some insanely light 4x100 wheels for quite cheap. Lenso VPD are boss level for FWD trackday activities, if you can find a pair of pairs. 2 Quote

CUL8R Posted December 21, 2025 Posted December 21, 2025 Cool project, should be rather rapid little car indeed. Brother had a injected one for awhile If I remember factory front spoiler and side skirts, Rear Black Rubber. I want to say it was on 14" alloys too , but cant quite remember now. It was pretty light weight though Quote
2eepy Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Had a good little squirt around the track on Sat but was pretty wet, traction was patchy Looking forward im starting to think, the midrange is abit flat..... the sc kits are starting to look interesting, although pretty pricey.... im thinking an SC14 would be a much more feasible option..... maybe some cams? The intake cam has a reasonable amount of wear on it so it probably wouldnt be a bad place to start.... Quote
CUL8R Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Have you tipped in the front hubs on the struts? You could either add offset camber bolts to the upper bolt hole, or oval out the holes on the strut itself for additional camber for a start? 1 Quote
Truenotch Posted March 26 Posted March 26 How much plunge is left in your CVs? If you have heaps, you could make or fit a longer lower arm. We ran out of length on the Hinda City racecar at work and it started pulling the axle out of the gearbox. We had to go 10mm shorter on the [massively extended] arm to stop the issue. Otherwise the method @CUL8R just described is the easiest way to get a degree or two... ideally you should be aiming for -2° or possibly even more for track work. The wheels look rad. 1 Quote
Rhyscar Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I reckon the wheels look great - fit with the theme of the car and a different retro style. Its as good as you could of managed from whats available new thats for sure! Slotting the hub bolts or adding camber bolts would be my go-to in this situation. Can get 3-4deg of change out of them if using top and bottom. And less impact on your CV travel. 1 Quote
2eepy Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 Nice, thanks lads. The top hats are tipped all the way inwards, I had not thought about ovaling the hub/strut, could prob make an oval on the opposite side of the top/bottom easily enough to get a little more tilt. Axle length I could probably also run a longer lower arm, finding something longer OE will prob be tricky, Im picking Cert wise custom lower arms are going to need crack testing etc..... I should probably run it through the cert as is and see how it goes.... I was hoping to drop the back another 25mm but that proved to be more hassle than I was hoping... EP82 struts are slightly longer but shortening seems like a waste of money..... Quote
CUL8R Posted March 30 Posted March 30 You might also have a small amount of success elongating the Subframe, slotting the mounting holes outward for the LCA? (thats more of a rally trick. Im not as much of fan of that method) Even though its double shear, you can't do them up as tight without wrecking the bushes to keep it in place. Might be worth looking into the LCA balljoint - some cars you can mix/match parts from other models that have a slightly different mounting flange. Ie longer flange would give more negative camber. I would be careful on widening the track too much, be worried about axle shaft lengths/engagement in the box end. 2 Quote
Rhyscar Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Just doing a quick google search, ae101 LCA's look almost identical to EP71 (note there are 2x different styles of LCA on ae101). Might be worth getting a set and measuring up? 10-20mm extra track width would make a reasonable difference to camber adjustment options. 2 Quote
Stu Posted March 31 Posted March 31 What is the outer spline count on the axles you are using? Have a look at EP82 hubs, alot of that stuff is plug and play and you might avoid alot of these issues. There are plenty of brake upgrade options too. Quote

I appreciate your expertise, good sir. 11 hours ago, Rhyscar said: Just doing a quick google search, ae101 LCA's look almost identical to EP71 (note there are 2x different styles of LCA on ae101). The AE101R (donor) LCA's where quite alot different to the EP70 ones, il try find an image of the other type to compare.... 23 hours ago, CUL8R said: You might also have a small amount of success elongating the Subframe, slotting the mounting holes outward for the LCA? Cheers, yeah a longer Ball joint may work but your right, it will push the track out... if im able to alter the angle at the strut/hub upright point that would surely effect the track the least. 2 Quote
