Morning all.

a bit of information gathering at this stage. I have inherited two cars from my late father, some of you may have seen my post about the 59 Dodge. The second is this 61 Plymouth, this one is unfortunately a lapsed rego.

the car was not on carjam, but I called NZTA and they managed to find the old paperwork from pre digitalisation at NZTA, so they have transferred the information over which I can only assume is a good thing.

When going through the revin process, does this car need to conform to current day safety measures or the measures of its time? For example am I going to need to pull all the trim off to check seat belt anchors, have high stop lights, seatbelts in the back etc etc.

I am aware of the process to reuse the black plates so will be going through that, I’m not currently working on this car yet but hoping to get it out of the garage and have a look at what might be involved over the Christmas break.

if anyone has a recommended agent for these types of cars in Christchurch that would be ideal.

A friend of mine basically dailyed an uncomplied 61 Fury for years around weelington. This information offers no value to this thread I'm sorry.

@MightyJoe works at a compliance place in chch I think?

It won't need to have rear seat belts, high stop lights are not a thing any more i think

I don't think older cars need to be stripped

The only potential headache is repair cert if it's had repairs or rust

I can definitely help with that. I work at Complete Automotive on Coleridge st. Best thing I can do is tell you to gather every piece of paperwork, correspondence with nzta and photos you have and ring Shaun & Tanya. Arrange a time to come down and go through what you've got and what you'll need to do. If it is in the system then it'll likely go through a pre 91 re reg which is a non invasive inspection,  like a strict green sticker wof basically. If it isn't, the interior needs to be stripped and wheels come off and brakes come apart. https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/entry-certification/i-and-c/required-documentation-and-registration/re-registering-a-vehicle#heading3-for-panel2

If it's had repairs previously or is rusty (more than surface rust, patina is fine) then it'll need a repair certification. Rules on this are strict,  but not to get ahead, ring Shaun or Tanya first. 03 366 6220
