SKEVAN Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Chur chur, got a 1997 Prado 90 with a 1kzte, which are known for shit exhausts causing high egt’s causing head warping and what not. ANYWAY, there’s a 1kzte exhaust off a 120series on market place local for a good price (3 inch stainless) and I was curious if they fit similar ish. Hanger position aint that much of an issue. I have a welder and a engineer on speed dial. any info is much appreciated Quote
JustHarry Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 The down pipe off the turbo is the actual problem. It pinches pretty bad where it drops down . But yeah a 3" exhaust is good for them. Krae sell one. Or buy a flange and make one yourself. They often need bracing as they crack from the weight and vibrations Unlikely a 120 prado system will fit. Probably good enough to cut up and make it work 5 Quote
SKEVAN Posted September 4, 2025 Author Posted September 4, 2025 Might low ball the dude either way, it’s been up for sale for ages and if I get it for my asking price it will be worth just cleaning for resale. Will come back with results on Sunday Quote
Duddley Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Just buy the one from Krae. Nice and easy. They have afterpay 1 Quote
JustHarry Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 @SKEVAN a egt gauge and a boost gauge are a good idea for them too. Then put 1.5k ohm resistors into the fuel pump resistors to correct fuel timing and add a bit more boost to keep it cool 1 Quote
SKEVAN Posted September 6, 2025 Author Posted September 6, 2025 just slapped the resistor in this morning, awesome way to unlock some power, gonna keep a eye out for a boost gauge and egt gauge gonna take it to a muffer shop and just get a quote for them to do it. and then start saving for a potenial head, got a funny problem of coolent bubbling in the coolent resevoir after shutting it off, and after extended driving she gets a bit white smokey. 2 Quote
Raizer Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Sure sounds like a cracked head. Budget for an injector rebuild and a new viscous fan clutch too, 10 blade late model Hilux fan is a decent upgrade over the old 7 blade. Full 3" from the turbo back makes a really noticeable improvement, I went with a single free flowing chamber muffler in mine. 6 Quote
JustHarry Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 +1 for new injectors. Im a big fan or remanufactured genuine. Most diesel workshops will have a couple sets for a 1kz on the shelf. You can also turn the boost up with a boot controller. I've got mine at 16psi just to get a bit more air to get the egts lower . Will help the head survive if your working it hard . 1 Quote
Raizer Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 I had my injectors rebuilt by Clive at Ireland diesel, he's happy to have them posted to him and sent back etc. Worked out faster and cheaper for me than getting reco ones. Put @Geophy and @chris r onto him too and as far as I know they've both been stoked with them. 3 hours ago, JustHarry said: You can also turn the boost up with a boot controller. Bleed valve in the MAP hose? 1 Quote
JustHarry Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 @Raizer nothing lol. Hasn't been a problem yet lol If so im only at 16psi so maybe it's low enough its not a problem. 1 Quote
Raizer Posted September 7, 2025 Posted September 7, 2025 Interesting, they're meant to have a 14 or 14.5psi boost cut, I know my van def does. Quote
