A Toyota v8 is a good option but would probably like the beams better

The 3.8 is always a good option, and still plentiful but I have always found it odd that they devalued any car they are fitted to (see Lotus 7 replica on TM currently)

as for 1nz, if I was to do something like that I’d use a modern MG (siac) turbo 4 or 3cyl to keep it in the family tho I have seen that computers with direct injection capabilities are very expensive

Another option which may seem super costly outlay but has some hidden savings is an f20c.

Manifolds done

No mods to suit swap from fwd to rwd like cooling system

Stock ecu can be configured with stock loom to enable a ~ 6 wire-in configuration.

Ap1 6 speed ratios are very good.

With the added bonus that the engine and box is a weapon combo.

3s & j160 for ease of install

I like the idea of a miniature e type, so would probably find a nice 2 litre straight 6 and put it on itbs it would be worse than the 3s option but cool because straight 6.

Oh so twenty debt

Well potentially you could make one of them sound and look cool with whatever that early cam cover with the stripes on it is.

I was going to suggest 1gge but they are so old these days it'd be a dumb idea.

Since this has finally left me stranded and needing a tow I was wanting to do a Poll on what should be the future of this junk

My sort of plan was since it didn’t sell cheap by November was to make it a track/road car with a plan of pre ‘78 spec build and leave engine power improvements till after I had completed a few races

Option 1 spec A - Keep going with my plan but Rewire car and fit duel fuel pumps for race reliability

spec B - Fuel injection - would not be pre ‘78 but there’s plenty other classes or just club sport events could add a ___charger easily to make more power cheaper than trying to make the forklift engine rev

Option 2 engine conversion - what engine + expected cost + how much time spent building not driving

examples

MX5 B6 + $3-4k + a few months

MGB V8 replica + $3-4k (tho manual gearbox may be hard to find) + a few months

LS the world + $5-7k + 6-12 months (would be eligible for mainland muscle cars but they might change their rules once I apply)

K series Honda would be cool but probably too costly once you start talking gearboxes, turbos, and link ecus

I have to keep in mind that if I plan spend more than $10 k in total I would be better off buying a already existing track/road car

If you want to race it in pre78s you'll need the original engine.

Anything else becomes all comers and without serious brake and suspension revisions you'd be a roadblock

Nothing wrong with a b series. Can make plenty of power for skinny tyres.

If I was you I'd have some fun playing around with the original engine. Fuel inject it for sure. Maybe a turbo. But what ever you do its already there and you could build the setup on a spare knowing it'll just bolt in.

Not that I'm a goo example of keeping things original. But at least you could muck about with what you've got first if the engines are cheap enough (I have no idea on that?)

Or otherwise some sort of punchy 3 cylinder mounted right back in the bay will surely upset the purists*    Are there any 3 pots out there with inline rwd configuration though?

* obviously this is the best way to upset them though...

I’m enjoying this conversation, thanks everyone.

One style of efi I have been looking at for its cost and ease is the 4bbl like the Holley sniper which I could quickly swap out to a carb to run in a classic series for a weekend and fit a S/C for a hill climb the next

in the end the B series is a poor choice for lots of design limitations but I can still have fun with it

Racehub sells quality steering wheels and boss kits

I did a cert on one of these a few months ago with a supercharger fitted, it wasn't super powerful but it was enjoyable to drive, I quite liked it
