Since its the fashionable thing to do on the tube, I decided to join in, tho I have done this many times before tho mainly from central North Island to Auckland 

got on my flight to Auckland today 

Did I mention I start my new job on Monday, smart idea guy

I got a bus to Whangārei today and took possession of my new vehicle and after a small chat with the old owner (for only a couple of months) I drove off to lots of regret to such a bad idea.

The two declared faults was the fuel gauge N/W and the wipers not working correctly. The gauge just needed the terminal plugging in. But the wipers… he replaced the motor himself but is missing the rubber mounting bit so the motor is just dancing in the bracket

So for the undeclared list… tail lights don’t work and with the lights on the LH indicator is not flashing then there’s the vacuum leak from the brake booster when you hold the brake at idle the engine drops down to 500rpm and sometimes stalls out. 

I had a look over the wiring last night and found a few things left unplugged but that only fixed the indicator and one reverse light, it seams to be no voltage going to any of the park lights but the headlights work so I will try not to drive at night.

It came with a new wof with less than 100km since but on my first drive I read who issued it, for the locals that know what Kamo testing station will pass this did not fill me with confidence.

so I left for the first part of my trip a 260km round trip to Opononi to pick up stuff from my now rental property, I took it easy at first but my confidence came back and it was not bad

Been a lot happening since the last post but I’m too tired to say but I made tonight’s destination and the car is still good

So Thursday evening I was working on fixing the wiper motor with some scrap rubber and some flashing tape to hold it together but the main issue was he left the tube nut disconnected so with it all together it works great. And found a new issue is that the starter is not working sometimes and it seems to have a voltage drop in the switching circuit somewhere as I can short circuit it .

but then my mother had a heart attack and we spent the night in ED (she recovered after a bit of treatment) then in the morning I was feeling ill most likely from lack of water, sleep and hospital A/C. So after sleeping all morning I finished off getting ready and set off 

I stopped in Henderson to get some rubber bits for it but other than south Auckland traffic it was a good trip

So the main reason for this trip was to bring down the original engine block and some other parts that were for the bluebird station wagon that I sold a couple of months ago to someone in Taranaki, but they were also interested in my other project bluebird.

but even with a short block in the boot, 4 boxes of parts in the front seat area and a mig welder on the back seat with gas bottle next to the spare tire it handles quite nicely tho the 20yo front tyres break free when pushed, I was worried that the shocks would be too bouncy.

But the trip came to an abrupt end due to the ferry crossing being cancelled but since I was in NP for Sunday I took a friend out to the local cars and coffee (Forgot to take some pics)

anyway back in the garage that my bluebird was hidden in and I will have to organise another trip home for it

I had a look underneath on Saturday and was surprised how tidy and rust free it is. Just needs most the rubber parts replaced, slight leak from the oil cooler and some slack in the diff remediation

This will be a last post for a while since I’m 1000km away from the car with no future plans to pick up, tho part shopping is on the cards, any suggestions for improvements and best priced suppliers.

also on Saturday I replaced the window seal on drivers side, after 50years it has become a little brittle

I followed this rig off the ferry to Blenheim, I could hardly keep up, so much power. Still with UK reg , obviously doing a world tour.

I highly recommend Strawberry Tree in Kaikōura, great meal

Made it home safely with no major problems the whole way, it was very unadventurous, I don’t think I could earn many UT subscribers from this if I bothered to film it.

So now that it’s here it’s time to give it some love for all the punishment it just received first was a valve and points adjustment and a oil and filter change then put together a list of items needed

So the water pump was very noisy but somehow holding water so with a bit of a tidy up of the cooling system it’s back together but after a test drive I need to replace the heater hose also

I took it out for an all British rally over the weekend. Looked abit average next to the other well kept vehicles there, tho caused a stir with the non British valve cover

So I removed the rear bumper and inspected a little surface rust on the RH reinforcing mounting plates which consisted of three layers, the tail panel and two plates stacked together. And of course the meat inside the sandwich had gone off .

removing the first layer was easy enough but the second layer even though I made Swiss cheese of it with the spot drill it took with it as much of the tail panel as possible while fighting all the way
