oldrx Posted August 2, 2025 Posted August 2, 2025 So along my latest super fun learning curve I was thinking of disassembling my BC coilovers to cut down the body/shaft, luckily a better idea headed me off but not before removing top nut and seal on one unit. If you are wondering if this will make all the oil come out, it does. Now I need replacement oil, all I see when googling is fork oil and stuff for mountain bikes, any ideas on where to go for shock oil, I have seen YouTube people say use 10 weight. To get the top retaining clip out to be able to refill I first need to remove nitrogen, turns out there is a self healing rubber membrane in the base accessed under a grub screw. Bleeding it out I think will be easy with a hollow needle, but will need it refilled, anyone in Waikato do this? Will also need to be same pressure as the untampered unit. Quote
mjrstar Posted August 2, 2025 Posted August 2, 2025 I reckon someone like Chris at suspension tech could sort you out pretty cheaply. 1 1 Quote

I rekon hes more likely to fuck it up spectacularly and fit used parts, that he claims are new, from Pick-a-Part Subarus. My neighbour Tim at Clark Performance in East Tamaki would be the man to speak to. He rebuilds shocks for Speedway daily. 1 1 1 Quote
NickJ Posted August 3, 2025 Posted August 3, 2025 Supercheap have fork oil https://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/oils-fluids-filters/motorcycle/fork-oil I used this to rebuild the factory shocks in a not at all performance vehicle that would have been happy with anything other than air. went down a rabbit hole a few years back for gas strut regassing, all the tools and fittings are on Ali, just need a nitrogen tank, if you're that way inclined 1 Quote
tortron Posted August 3, 2025 Posted August 3, 2025 barely related, but i put fork oil in my morrie shocks back in 19dickity (2010? when i had them rebuilt, but also before that when i topped the leaks up) seems to be the right stuff, i used about 10 weight too Quote

oldrx Posted August 13, 2025 Author Posted August 13, 2025 Tim at Clark Performance was tied up for a few weeks but put me on to a top guy Aaron in Hamilton that sorted me out, not sure what his business is called, work from home kinda thing, has a well equipped shop with shock dyno etc. pm for mobile number if anyone wants it 1 Quote
