Popular Post HumberSS Posted July 24 Popular Post Posted July 24 Been toying with an idea. In the absence of doing work on my car doing work on accessories for my car.. So lowering these old dogs seems a little on the limited side. Have decided to explore getting some 2" drop spindles cast and selling enough to cover off the pattern making and do a small run. Have kicked d this around with the wise and handsome Datsun foamer @fletchand the sample size of 2 has concurred it is a good idea. Have done muchos 3D CAD shenanigans, it looks like it will work across all models using the later ball joints and a bearing swap. Thinking I will incorporate both the factory brake mount and ability to upgrade to a larger caliper with 100mm bolt spacing. Undecided if I will cast/machine the whole thing or run a 4140 stub fit into the casting. The detail will reveal itself. I've started a conversation with lvvta around getting it approved for cert also. Price wise I expect it will land around the $500/pair mark but will confirm once my pricing comes back and I understand the demand side. The big question is, who's keen? I'd doubt I'll make the numbers in NZ alone so will canvas the international pages in due course. Could look at doing other models if the demand was there also. Crowns spring to mind?? The aussy shit is obvs well serviced. Tag all the Datsun weirdos. Will update as I progress. 9 1 Quote

NickJ Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I say do it! In a similar boat running up zero searching for brake rotors for the 1600, looking like a run of those is going to get pushed through the CNC lathe. Cost of 5 sets isn't much more than 1, sell a few sets, cover costs and learn something new 1 Quote

But more work sussing out of there is no logical off the shelf option first Quote
NickJ Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Mine are solid and cast round in the right brew is available off the shelf, "should" be fairly straight forward. Except for cleaning the machine out after 1 Quote

Bearded Baldy Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Could turn the area of the caliper mounts into a solid fan/arc. That way it could be drilled to suit any caliper. 1 Quote

440bbm Posted July 31 Posted July 31 less cooling and more unsprung weight, could raise eyebrows at the powers to be that sign the design of when comparing your design to the OG when all you are doing is shifting stub location up. maybe put a couple differnt great caliper options there instead ? 2 Quote

True. The original plan was a factory mount and a 100mm option for later calipers. Would like to keep the unsprung weight the same. Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Fair point i was just thinking of the ones made for my cooncar that have that option. 1 Quote
