It's interesting that on cold start the other night it seemed to run perfectly smooth for a little bit before it started missing and coughing. I wonder it it was running smoothly for those 30 ish sec due to the post glow from glow plug controller. Which gives me another barry idea that probably won't work I'm firmly in denial and don't want to pull the head so will waste hours of time doing barry bullshit that could just be spent on pulling the head and doing it properly. Swap one of the old glows into cyl 1 and Rangi up a additional relay and have manual after glow for a few mins. Possibly (probably not) a bit of heat in the cylinder might help soften some shit on the valve/valve seat. Yes I am aware doing that will shorten the life of the glow plug and risk it prolapsing but it won't be constantly on. BNT called and nothing close or in the country for the bush so I've paid the Malaysian shop. Bank fees and associated bs was about half the cost of the bush and shipping again. Should be shipped and on the way to me by the end of the week. 1 Quote
chris r Posted April 30, 2025 Author Posted April 30, 2025 DHL have collected the bush so should be here next week. Not that anyone else will need a musso steering rack bush in a hurry but Simon from fhl autoparts in Malaysia was super helpful and a mega gc https://store.conpero.com/fhlautoparts/ 3 Quote
chris r Posted May 1, 2025 Author Posted May 1, 2025 Put the old steering rack bush back in and took it for a test drive to Mexico. The injectors must have been in pretty bad shape before. It's still not fast but can actually accelerate on the motorway It could barely manage 100 with a tailwind before. If it fires on all 5 cylinders it might finish off what's left of the transmission 4 Quote
chris r Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 Picked up the wheels this morning after having new tyres fitted. Pretty happy with how it sits and looks now Wasn't a fan of the style or offset of the black amg wheels specially on the rear. The amg wheels are et48 and the cls wheels I've just put on are et18. Raizer Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 We're both lucky the old owner of my car was so pedantic, cause of those couple light blemishes you got a great deal on CLS wheels and I got the immaculate set with the facelift centres on my car! 1 Quote
chris r Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 Had a look at the loose handbrake this afternoon, didnt realise it was rear disc (shows how much i was paying attention to it started pulling the disc off and was having a battle with it, Noticed the parking shoe wasnt seated correctly re seated it found the cable adjuster after oulling the center console out. it was hiding above the diff Handbrake is now adjusted so thats one thing ticked off for the wof. 3 Quote
chris r Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 Replaced the oil pressure switch that was leaking. It looks like the old one had been smacked or hit by something as the stud for the wire was pushed in and was spinning I wured up a relay for no 1 glow so I can manually trigger it as it does actually run smoother with a bit more glow. Tucked it down next to the battery and actual glow relay Ran the boost gauge line too while I was poking stuff through the firewall Gauge is sitting in the glovebox for now The wipers wouldnt self park and the intermittent wouldnt work which was annoying me. The service manual said the STICS module controls the intermittent function and the module was located beside the handbrake. The manual must be for a LHD as its nowhere near the handbrake I exploded the whole dash looking for it sneaky bastard was hiding up the firewall in the drivers footwell Took the module to the healing bench and reflowed most of the solder joints. They didnt look too horrible but since it was out I figured may as well gave a go at them Yes its not the neatest but its as good as I can be bothered to do it 2 Quote
chris r Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 The wipers are going stay not self parking for now Re soldering module didn't work, still no self parking While putting the module back in I noticed this Heatshrink over half the palm of the lug isn't ideal. Thought it could be a earth issue back to the motor so ran a extra earth to it from inside I'll need to find more fucks to give to diagnose it further. Or wait until it gets really annoying Wired up the boost gauge to the glovebox light because the wires were there and that's as much caring as I had Spring toggle switch for the no1 glow/push to pass button Now I can get back to arranging my tools which I started doing this morning 1 Quote
fletch Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 Can you try pop the valve spring off and put a battery drill on the valve stem and feed some grinding paste onto the back of the valve with a toothbrush to clean up the seat? 3 Quote
chris r Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 @Raizer also suggested that a while ago. When I have the caring to pull it apart again I'll give that a go. Stock boost seems to be 10psi Installed the vice grip boost controller Makes no difference as it needs more fuel to go with the boost but bigger numbers are more fun 3 Quote
chris r Posted May 6, 2025 Author Posted May 6, 2025 Looks like some boost has been escaping, I reused the old gasket as it'll probably have to come apart again. Will shove some hondabond in and call it good. The bush arrived from Malaysia. Dropping the swaybar made installing it significantly easier And the little square of paper I think my valve spring theory is bullshit as it runs nicer when it's hot. Can actually accelerate up hills now and even managed a overtake. I'm calling it fixed enough to daily and will ignore the low cylinder until it gets bad enough to be annoying 4 Quote
chris r Posted May 6, 2025 Author Posted May 6, 2025 While I had the intercooler pipe off I figured I'd see what it sounds like normally aspirated. The injectors must really needed a service as goes harder now without boost than it did with boost before Now to get gas for my welder and the muffler might have a accident 1 Quote
Popular Post chris r Posted May 7, 2025 Author Popular Post Posted May 7, 2025 Interior light blew a bulb so I shoved some led strip in. I must have ordered the bright shit and it was actual watts not Chinese watts as it is now too bright I think I'll cut half of them out tomorrow and see how it goes. Edit / update. It's still bright as fuck in daylight so definitely need to take atleast half out 1 9 Quote
Popular Post chris r Posted May 8, 2025 Author Popular Post Posted May 8, 2025 I noticed a generous oil stain and rainbow puddle today. Figured I'd have a quick look. Bloody Delphi oil pressure switch was pissing oil out more than the original one. Luckily I fucked up and ordered two sensors (different brands) so swapped that out Wacked my head on the boot one too many times and got pissed off with the sagged rear springs. Luckily for me the warehouse had some musso spec air assist springs in stock Installed the air assist bags and inflated as per manufacturer instructions Couldn't find my tape measure so used the very accurate finger gauge Before And after So a solid two finger lift for a total of $36. And I can stand under the boot now so I'll call that a win. Have just turned off the interior light for now and will fix it later 5 3 7 1 Quote
chris r Posted May 9, 2025 Author Posted May 9, 2025 The front shocks are barely functional so in the interest of having some sort of vehicle control I figured I'd replace them. After a few hours cross referencing various catalogues it appears Nissan D21 are a match/close fit. Ripco had some d21 shocks on clearance for 40 each so I gambled and ordered a couple. Will install them when it's not raining so much. I ordered a steering wheel repair kit for $2 from the same clearance section. I generally despise steering wheel covers but I hate flaking off foam more 8 Quote
Popular Post chris r Posted May 10, 2025 Author Popular Post Posted May 10, 2025 Bottom bolt fitted which is a relief and they look close enough to the correct length Passengers side in And drivers side The original drivers side shock was bent and looks like it's been bent for a while Edit /update. I knew the front shocks were fucked but didn't think they were as fucked as they were. No longer feel like I'm nose diving under brakes and it's not doing a pogo stick impression over bumps 10 Quote
chris r Posted May 17, 2025 Author Posted May 17, 2025 The Mrs said maybe the musso is trying to die and I'm keeping it alive against its will. I'm beginning to think she might be right Put heater on and it came down to normal. 2 mins later Chucked some water in and it came right back out Maybe the coolant flush wasn't a good idea afterall, must have dislodged the shit that was sealing the hole. Or just usual kiwi not servicing diesels properly and lack of coolant corroded stuff Doesn't look too horrible to remove (famous last words) Will attempt to weld the tube up and if that doesn't work I'll try to source another 5 Quote
Popular Post chris r Posted May 17, 2025 Author Popular Post Posted May 17, 2025 That was surprisingly easy to take off. That means refitting is going to be a mission and the o ring will leak 11 Quote
