Zundapp Cholo-Sled

Ive had this Zundapp Combinette for about a year and thought I'd get started on getting on the road.

I bought it just as roller with no engine and all the good bits/hard to find parts taken from it

The first time I saw one of these was at Aaron Cards shed when he lived at West Melton. I fell in love with the art deco lines and styling, when this came up for sale at a good price I snapped it up.

Plans for it are to do a cholo sled sled style, metal flake paint, fish tail tips, bling wheels and lifan conversion

I picked up some wheels from marketplace, originally I think theyre from the mBike c50 deluxe kit bikes they brought in a few years back. I got some new tyres, tubes, rear sprocket and chain from mBike to mount to them.

I started on the swingarm, I considered using the zundapp one but i couldnt get away with the swingarm and chainguard being one piece and didnt want to dick around altering it to accomodate the c50 style rear wheel. Its basically the same thickness as the original but made from solid flat bar. Ive made it from two separate parts to give it that pressed look. Plug welded the smaller piece to the bigger with 10mm perimeter. I used an old ct90 swingarm that was stuffed for the bushes.

 

With everything tacked together I tried it on the frame to make sure it'll work Pretty happy with how it sits, I ll use some 260mm thai style shocks that i have on my chaly and make some mounts for them just in front of the axle slots. I took the rear rack off and it looks way better.

I'll make a fully enclosed chainguard but make it removable like a c50 for maintenance and accessability

its been a while since I actually put a hand on this bike, Ive been off work on ACC recovering from a dislocated shoulder (the same one I dislocated in 2018 and the same one I had clavicle surgery in 2020) and felt up to start tinkering with it and getting some motivation to maybe get it ready for this years Syds. 

I thought I'd took photos of the engine mounts but i hadnt. I'll fully weld them up tomorrow and take some then.

Today I nutted out the intake manifold and got that buttoned up. I had a few 90 degree bends kicking about and some flat plate which I made some flanges from and just jigsawd them together.

I thought I'd try on some factory chaly bars and I think theyre a winner

I picked up some rear shocks from mBike on friday, Theyre the exact length I wanted and they match the lines of the frame/swingarm perfect.

I bought 2 different styles, one more of a classic look, the other a more modern twist. Andy and Wei as always were great to deal with.
