Sungai Sungai
Ayo Oldschoolers! We're booked in for the next edition of oldschool drags at Meremere dragway. Save the date! *IMPORTANT* We need a couple volunteers who can help to run the event. @Truenotch moved to Queenstown a while back so i've stepped up to run the day. PM me if you're interested in helping with some marshalling. This will mainly mean standing with a headset on while waving cars forward and keeping people from jumping the cue. ENTER HERE DETAILS: Location: Meremere Dragway Date: Saturday December 14th, 2024 Time: 8:00am tech inspection 10:00am - ~3:30pm Racing Entry Fee: $80 per car for racers. Spectator entry is free so tell your friends and family to come enjoy some eager smoke and a hotdog! The event is open to all oldschool or retro cars and bikes (1989 and earlier). Special dispensations on this rule may be granted to oldschool.co.nz members or other interesting cars. We will be running the full timing system, the same as past years. In the afternoon we run a competitive DYO tournament but the full electronic timing system will be in use ALL DAY. You'll receive an ET and a trap speed at the end of each run as well as a printout of all your vital statistics including your reaction and 60 foot times. Exactly what you need to see where you could gain an extra tenth of a second in your Hillman Imp and drop it into the 21 second bracket. Rules, Requirements and some Frequently Asked Questions: - An oldschool/retro car or bike running NO FASTER than an 11.0 second ET. - Pre-1990 vehicles take preference for entries but we will allow some vehicles that fall outside this category if you're an active OS member. - ONE entry per vehicle. If you want to bring more than one vehicle each vehicle will need to be paid for separately. - Registration and WoF ~OR~ NZDRA tech inspection/MSNZ logbook required. - A crash helmet, up to current standards. - Covered footwear. - Radiator overflow and secure battery. - Rotary Engined vehicles no longer require a scatter shield - Semi-slicks are permitted. No full slicks as the rules permit DOT rated tyres only. - Stripped interiors and open headers are also permitted. - We are not running a prepped track. This pushes entry fees up by at least 2x so please be careful. - No passengers permitted. - No static burnouts on the track other than in the designated burnout box. - Fire and clean-up is provided by the track BUT if you require a spill clean-up or use of the extinguishers you will be expected to reimburse them for these costs. - No animals permitted on the track. - No alcohol or drug consumption permitted on track, pits or staging area. - Have fun! Please put the date in your calendar and and start preparing your vehicles (and yourselves) for the day! Don't forget to tell your friends with old vehicles that they're welcome to enter! We encourage new faces and cars at this event, just like at all oldschool events. Meremere Dragway loves our club and the boss told me personally last year that their staff all look forward to our events because of the drama free good nature of it all. Of course lets out-do ourselves in these regards and be gracious and polite to ALL track staff at every opportunity. If you have any questions or comments, please ask them here. zach_munce
From what I remember it's like towards the end if the road back from the end of the track
Truenotch
Yeah, the skid pad is on the return road across from the spectator stands. I don't think it's worth the expense (it's an extra $1000 to hire the pad)... We break enough cars already without throwing a burnout comp into the mix . I've heard a rumour of a certain red Starlet making an appearance at this event. It would be exceptional if we could get all 3 4 big Starlet hitters along in December (nudge nudge, wink wink: @_Matt @Snoozin @kpr ** @mjrstar)
mjrstar
thankfully I wasn't tagged in the red starlet list above. 1
