well well well.

we got there in the end.

oldschool drag day came around and went pretty fast. i ended up doing 18 runs that day and pushed and pushed the bike continuously. to the point i thought i hot seized it. turns out the battery just went flat thankfully. was great to have the family along and race a bunch of different cars and clint on his bike. 

start the day off with some fouling plugs
 

luckily mum was coming up a bit later and stopped in at boyds to grab some new ones for me.

10/10 day and Jesus it was hot in my leathers. no wonder why all the p roders ride in shorts and a shirt.

i painted the little suzuki on the side casing of the engine to match the other side after @flyingbrick couldn't let his ocd pass it up and point it out to me.
 

did the most normal thing and went shopping for finger nail polish xmas eve.

so many different reds
 

counter lady asked if it was a late xmas present for my partner. i laughed and said no, i just needed to paint something red.
 

came away with that.

i was planning on heading down to battle of the streets in whanganui, and after a bunch of thinking and chatting. i ended up splurging out of a radar before heading away on the bikes that weekend.
 

but due to the forecast we didn't get away to battle of the streets. but i did get to the mt on the bike.
 

ended up taking the bike for a hoon on the 1st of Jan as i had some time up my sleeve before work i think. ended up down at whakamaru.
 

Bumped into @datlow while i was there
 

ended up giving the plugs a clean
 

hit them with a vapor blast try bring them to life.

then went for a ride to raglan and cased the sun before it completely disappeared

 

then i went drag racing with a couple of mates
 

 

 

they do wheelies and i cant
 

 

 

alright i got to go do some work.

I have done a couple smaller rides and clocked up a fewr 100 kms now. Todays ride on the bike was good, felt great and weather was beautiful.

 

 

Pulled the tank off and ripped the spark plugs out to check condition on them and I'm happy too report back that they look pretty good still.

 

 

 

Going off chats and typical Google searches it seems like it's still good condition and it's not lean or rich. Floating around in the middle.

 

Night speed drag wars tomorrow night and I'm excited to see if my ¼ mile times change.

Round 6 of Night Speed Drag Wars.

 

 

 

What a round for myself, I went through scrutineering and rode my bike around to the pits, where I went to start it up and check a few things. Well, we aren't starting. Battery completely flat! After almost 300kms of riding, it seems either the voltage regulator or either stator isn't working. A quick phone call to @Roman and @flyingbrick, and they bought a jumper pack to help and a multi meter up, which confirmed no voltage.

 

 

 

First test run, 12.4. Very close to my personal pb of 12.2. The second run was 12.3, third was 12.6, and i was fast asleep on the line. A few people were going for another run, so I qued up before giving my dial in time, and I ran a 12.05. New pb so put my dail in as 11.95. Round one was against Shaun on his Harley. Believe it or not, i broke out at 11.919 a new pb but knocked out early. 

 

 

 

After a while, I thought I'd try to do a grudge race and try to get another pb. My battery decided not go at all. So I watched the rest of the bike races, resulting in Ben coming 1st for the second time for this season. 

A push start for me, lights turned off i followed @MostlySuzukis with his mate Aaron beside me and Ben following me we got on our way and before I knew it we were home.

I've spoken to a fellow gsx1100 rider here locally in nz and asked if he's got spare parts. This is his turbo powered 1428cc 300hp gsx1100 that does 8.8 second quarter mile at 152mph

 

 

 

Hopefully, he can have a dig around and check his parts. Round 7 is in 3 weeks' time. I'd really like to get a new pb and get a few more runs under the belt with the trumpets on.

I'm practically a auto electrician now.

 

Not really, but I had a mate pop over and he was saying that if the voltage regulator is a 3 phase one you can just replace it with any 3 phase voltage regulator.

 

So i rang the local bike wreckers and he was in the shop. Shot down to have a catch up and show him what I was dealing with. He said yup, looked in a few boxes and pulled out a sv650 regulator. 5 wires and chucked it on the bench and showed me how to test them while testing it. Proceeded to test mine and explain to me more and how it's fucked. That experience it self was worth the 75 dollars.

 

Quick trip to super cheap to get some plugs. 

 

 

 

As long as they go any three phase wire to any other three phase wire that part is fine, red to red and black to black its fine. So a dodgy crimp and some soldering.

 

 

 

installed with a minor movement of some wires so they didn't get squashed.

good to meet you too @Kiwibirdman bummer your son got knocked out early on in the night, but good to see him racing again after only doing the 1st round of night speed.

after fixing the voltage regulator i went to a local car and bike show in Frankton, won a $150 fuel voucher as a spot prize. win win. 

made the most of the free fuel and went for a quick blat over the divy towards Raglan.
 

 

got the oil nice and hot and dropped it out once i got home to doing a filter and oil change.
 

i had been pretty lazy about changing the filter due to having to take the headers off to get it out and should have done this a long time ago. but trusty Suzuki and low servicing needs just got the better of me.
 

while doing this in typical fashion my daughter was right next to me lending me a hand.

i really wanted to tip some water down the funnel for a good old laugh.

new filter came with a new o ring for the seal, gave it little to no attention and slapped that one and back in she went
 

 

back to teaching a small human logical stuff about motors, we read the owners manual and checked how much oil it'd take after doing a filter
 

and she insisted she needed to do the poring of the oil and doing the cap up.
 

now ready for round 7 of night speed drag wars.

 

 

it was a bloody great night for bikes. we must have had shy of 40 bikes racing if not more.
 

 

 

While doing practice runs, i lined up against @MostlySuzukis and managed to win the race against him for the 1st time, but in the finals, he got his vengeance and won, putting him into the final round and coming 2nd for the night.
 

i am number 24, Marnix (mostly suzuki) is 26


During test runs, I ran my personal best of 11.832 with a reaction of 0.007, putting a false hope that I was going to run close to this during the night. In reality, I should have set my dail in time around 11.9 or 11.95 as the night got muggier and air temps became warmer.
 

None the less, I came 3rd equal with our mate Ben on his Yamaha Fazer and got in 10 runs for the night, putting me a 62 runs down the drag strip since 1st of November, a few yellow slips amongst the stack.

It'd been a week or so since and i finally found out news that i didn't get the higher role i applied for at work and i probably didn't take it that well. so default settings is to go for a thrash on my bike and take my frustration out on that.

so hit up marnix yet again and said dw about about the cost of gas i got you covered for this ride.

on the way back we had little traffic going over the divy. found my muffler, peg and boot through the corners 
 

 

 

the muffler made some pretty sparks and covered marnix in them, i even managed to catch a glimpse of them out of my one mirror haha

bikes been going really well and time to do a plug check to see the condition of them, had this pesky stone down in there stopping me from getting one plug out.

got a new top speed of 211kph and its really starting to struggle to get any more after 190kph. so must be lack of hp been 100hp ish or gear rations and falling off its peak performance around that speed against the wind

so i've sold the beetle, adapter plate and got some other crap to sell and saving my cashies to try get a bike that'd be around 150hp stock or more, and i will probably just get a re-tune on that or just start racing that stock which will give me more time to modify this bike into something a bit sillier. i have another stock manifold that i wouldn't mind cutting up and slapping a turbo on for fun.

anyway, last round of night speed drag wars on the 25th and 1st and 2nd position are just racing each other in points, where marnix is currently in 3rd and has another 5 other people including myself that could knock him out. its been a great season for fun, learning the bike and been able to try something different.

Hi,

thanks for sharing the adventure you have had with your motorcycle, some great reading. I have a 1100 ef like yours and are looking for the speedo drive gearbox as mine is buggered. I see you have changed the front wheel out so was wondering if you used the original gearbox. If not, do you want to sell it?

On a side note I am involved with Alex who owns the ef turbo drag bike from Christchurch you met at the drag meet in Auckland a while ago. Now that is a beast!
