I am soooo Fricking tempted to go get two tins of Matt black and be done with it.

Dont buy Rustoleum paint

Yeah. I wanna stay with the yellow.  I’m just gonna run the base coat and wax the shit out of it. Back guard also frittered so that’s a strip as well.

About to turn around and strip the tins a 3rd time. It’s going to get a satin black paint job from left over tins from work.

When in doubt black it out …?

Too friggen right. I was saying to old boy I’m gonna rattle can it satin black. He told me to take the remains of the gloss black he got as part of his sponsorship for his dirt cars. After almost 49 years of speedway he has finally walked away, and he won’t be needing it.

And to make all the more cringey I’m thinking a set of these in red or white

Went down the shed week or so ago and thought “Shit, the bike looks like it’s fallen over!” Clear all the shit stored in front of it and yep, almost 300kgs of Vulcan is almost on its side. When I parked it up the ground was dry (dirt floor dugout) and with this wet weather the dirt floors gone soft, and side stand had sunk into the ground. I managed to get it back up on two wheels and put some thick ply under the side stand. Today I got it off the dirt. Back wheel had sunk 100mm into the ground. I pulled the tank and guards off AGAIN in preparation for paint job number 3.

Well nearly a year later and I’ve done something about it. Due to RatRod engine/chassis separation (in preparation of selling them off) I’ve put the chassis outside and pulled poor old Vulcan out from its hidey hole and uncovered the tins.IMG_5174.thumb.jpeg.0b222a535310626a39e89322806b0174.jpeg

As to be expected they’re now rusty. I messaged a real good mate of mine (Gloss Boss on Facebook) and asked what I need to do to start again. He said give em to me for a while and I’ll do it, I’ll come see ya tomorrow.

Shows up today and had a mean catchup. Gave him all the primer and paint etc and he said “Nah don’t want it, I’d like to do something better than that crappy black you got”.
Sooo….. I have no idea what it’s gonna look like when I get it back. “As long as it is not green”

Got out some metal polish and had a quick tub over some surfaces. Surprisingly not much Ali oxidisation. Small amount of rust on rims which I think Coke and tinfoil should mask.

Battery is toast as to be expected. Tyres have about 10 psi in them.
I’ll do a bit more buffing and see what the paint job looks like when I get them back…

Total strip back. All filler shown has been removed and redone after these pics were taken.
Gave me absolutely no clues as to what colour it’s gonna be.

Reckons it’ll be done in a fortnight. Told him no rush, whenever.

I’ve done no more to it as I’ve been working on the 4.0ls clutch (cap screws for the clutch touching the intermediate plate) and modifying/creating holes for the lower 4 bolts that attach the bellhousing to the sump. Throw that back together tomorrow, fire it up and send a vid of it running to its new owner. It’s going into a XF ute, 4 barrel and all

Got these late last night. The tins look bloody good under these lights. Appears  he’s corrected the back guard as my fill in jobs no longer apparent.

In typical fashion (I name everything I own) and being a huge Motörhead fan I dub thee “Ace of Spades”. Kinda fits, black, and low down in the pack….
