still on the hunt for this bracket - Hurst comp plus shifter to 4 speed toploader bracket

Engine and auto are out and goooone

Now to clean up the engine bay and prep that for a blast of yellow ochre it so deserves.

Painting the Simmons FR17 centres in a week or so and that side of things can begin too.

The block will need a clean and a hone soon too then buy the rings and bearings and balance the assembly.

There's lots of different free apps to resize photos so they can be uploaded here, I've been using "photo editor" on Android for years now.

Did you end up getting a hurst shifter bracket?

I find if you use ebay, change your area code to USA (use beverley hills 90210 for instance) then you'll get alot more options come up - should be heaps on there

Is that 8.8" completely stock width?

Yea mate - that bracket is almost sorted. Mate needs to adjust it slightly. 
 

yea that eBay truck is epic aye - opens up a world of parts. 
 

the explorer diff looks like it’s been cut already so it’s reasonably short.

I just use my phone, and screen shot the photos and use that, they always load.

On my Samsung, i just use the builtin resize in Gallery. Open Gallery, select the photo, tap the pencil icon, tap the ... icon, tap Resize, select the size you want, tap Save, job done. 🙂

Slowly getting there - the 9" purchase was left field but for the actual complete price AND it's the desired ration AND LSD....no brainer.

the 8.8" would owe me more after I rebuilt it and added the correct ratio plus brakes etc. 

Once this is built and in place, I can get the shell rolling again, and actually finish off sanding the engine bay (regret starting this BTW). I prefer to sand it outdoors and not 'yellow" up my garage internals.

I will need to man up and get a clutch kit for the 351c 164T flywheel and probable a HD clutch.

The Borg Warner 28 spline are the same as your 9" 28 spline..

Just incase you wanted to use 2x EA-EL axles & drums etc? Which is the small taper axle bearings?

good to know mate - I do need to cut the diff down so I would need the longer spline to cut down on the aftermarket axles. Cheers re the drums. Might be worth investigating.

Another day and more priming/sanding. I will be masking the bay brake lines and removing the strut tops etc.

It feels like real progress and again, the bay didn't need a full paint or prime. It should be worth the work

Update:

 

Exhaust is of at the blasters now - will prime it as soon as I get it back.

VHT Flameproof paint ordered - got pacemaker blue (hopefully) according to the part number and interwebs

ISKY cam that came with my engine is at Auckland Camshafts now and Henry is evaluating my 2V closed chamber heads, as they are double sprung for a decent HP motor. It could prove to be too much for my build, so he is going to let me know.

Possibly regrinding the ISKY to a Thumpr spec cam, as performance cams are excellent to use for a re-grind, providing there is enough lobe meat to work with.

When the cam is sorted, I will get the re grind, then Henry can press out and in my cam bearings

Might need a new set of flat tappet hydraulic lifters, as they are relatively cheap - he is assessing whether a roller cam upgrade could be "worth it" based on my current set up, but that ain't cheap.

14x8 tridens are buffed up as much as I could be ar5ed doing, and next step is to get the eagers on.

Oh, and I've not painted the bay yet.....

9" needs new spring perches welded on and a fixture point for the new soft line brake line from the hardline on the diff to the end of the hardline on the body.

I got a new body to diff hose from bnt with the junction already on the end of it if that helps.

pulled the bonnet hinges - I really was getting too laid back re the approach for the bay paining. As usual, I'm glad I did do this as they had 50+ years or jive under them.
