OK - so I did a thing

 

I came across a double dimple case Ford " that came with 28 spline LSD head in the desired 3.7:1 ratio plus axles and drum brakes....$1,250....complete!

I jumped on the deal and now have sold my 8.8 explorer diff and the stock open spinner 6cyl diff.

The handbrake cables attach directly in no problem.

I cleaned up the surface rust on the gears and it has came up nice. 

Next step, I am getting the diff case blasted and then Choppers Auto Body Shop will be slicing the flanges off and welding on new flanges to suit my 10" Simmons.

The old mounts for the leaf springs actually fit but I will need those taken off and new ones added to suit the U bolts.

Then I will get 2 x new 28 spline axles incl bearing that have long spline sections that you simply cut to suit the new diff length. I can rebuild the drums OR buy new ones for $500-$700.

So now I have the desired combo of:

351C + Close ratio 4 speed toploader + a 9" LSD

I also tidied up the headlight buckets today - another little job done

Boredom got the best of be yesterday, so I decided to have a PROPER crack at the backed on grime around the steering box and brake booster area. Much to my delight, it came off pretty well with the correct amount of elbow grease.

And since the satin black paint was getting a work out, I decided to tidy up the faded radiator support also. Came up mint and yes, I replicated the original over-spray as per factory, the best I could

Satin black headlight buckets are back in and I really puller finger and got cracking into the engine bay sanding the stains from 50+ years of life. It's bloody tidy and should look great after a paint.

Out of utter boredom, I buffed the b-jesus out of my front bumper and man it came up nice. It's now shining like a diamond in a goats a55.

Full disclosure I will buy new bumpers one day but holy hecka it came up sweet.

In other news, it appears I need to now do the underside of the bloody bonnet too....I will be buying a new GT one....so may or may not go ahead with that paint on the underside

Old huckery diff mounts are now axed off and I’ve stripped the layers of retro paint off and primered the centre section.  
 

I need to buy new mounts and have them welded on along with a nut to help fix the soft brake like junction to hard line. 
 

oh and in other news, Simmons are sold…..

14x8 MINT Tridens are in the shed and I have a excellent set of Eagers coming up soon. 
 

Will buy new 9” drum brakes circa $750 and have new bearings pressed on the axles. 
 

I got a used 750 Holley DP also.

Bought new axle bearings for the 28 spline 9” axles. Just pulled the old axle oil seals and will clean up inside and install. 
 

4 mint Eagers 245 50 14 are now in the shed and will be mounted to my mint 14x8 OG Tridens. 
 

I really need to stick to the one set of wheels plan from now on. 
 

 

those with eagle eyes will see I bought brand new drums brakes and drums 11” $950. 
 

I didn’t fancy dicking about rebuilding the old ones and their drums were farked anyway.

$50 XY Fairmont Falcon boot carpet score off Marketplace. Was new but in a shed for years. Cleaned up sweet.

$450 later and I have a bolt on set up (Pacemaker headers and Hooker Mufflers.

 

I prob will get the rear pipes added

 

I will blast it up and heat paint it - should look schmicko

This came up mint and I laid primer down asap. 
 

headers will get the pacemaker blue high temp paint. The remainder of the exhaust will be painted black. 
 

I’d imagine I will need the end section to extend the exhaust to the rear of the car. Those are $340 for a pre bent pair.

Pulled the steering box, after I found out it was relatively easy. 
 

Glad I did as it would be a shame to have the bay painted and not pilled that and idler arm. 
 

whilst I’m at it, I removed the inner one outer tie rods too and built the new ones. 
 

the steering box, idler and drag link all got a wire wheel and will get a paint soon too.
