SHIZZL's Hunter race build

So I picked up a 2nd hunter a while ago, another 73 super.

This had a standard motor in it with twin carbs.

But could not get it to play nice due to a busted fuel pump.

So I decided that was going to put a 12a in this one aswell. But sourcing needed parts was too difficult.

So fast forward to now..

Body situation is the previous owner spent hours doing body work on it. Deleted the mouldings which I didn't approve of.. So those weld spots need finishing off.

He has sprayed the jams, boot and engine bulkhead red.. Not sure if I'm living it or not.

It does have a couple of rust points to sort out. One at the base of the a puller inside, and one at the windscreen corner. And a few pin holes on the drivers foot well.

Over lockdown I sold the engine, carbs, and other bits I won't use on this.

And picked up my new mystery motor, see next post for these details.

This car has lowered coils and blocks in it with good firm shocks.. These will get thrown into the green car, as this will get the coilovers conversion up front and turrets with coilovers in the back.

So plans:

Engine conversion-has cert plate for this already.

Coilovers

Turrets out back with coilovers

2dr conversion to extend the door openings.

Rollcage and race spec interior.

15x8s and 15x8s on sticky tyres.

Fuel cell and surge tank setup.

Custom dash as the stock one is poked.

Id like to find an escort English diff so I can run a lsd and do a disc conversion with off the shelf items.

The front brakes will be escort willwood or ap calipers with capri discs.

Have a tilton pedal box for it to have a bias aswell.

This will get a wide body mid, I have mk1 arches on it but will try and get some mk2 arches to compare, to see what suits it best.

This will be a slow build, until I get the green car finished and off the hoist.

Discuss away.

So I had it all booked to go off for its rollcage to be done. Nope not even close.

Last minute job of pulling out sound deadening found some weight reduction holes in the floors. Only the fronts.

So I promptly ordered a bead roller, as you do.

And will find some zintec to make up some floor plates.

Cage was able to be swapped with another car.. So better pull finger.

Little ae86 4age that was rebuilt by GER to stock specs.

hasn’t been run up yet.

will need to get some lubes going through it before it sees any rotational efforts.

I picked up a pair of carbs and a manifold for it. Got some MRP injector bungs to install.

all I really need to complete it now is a hyperpak ignition system and rebuild the carbs and sort the linkage system out.

Choice auw

engine and box in. Driveshaft fitted up.

only have a part of the gearbox crossmember to finish as the original was lost.

sway bar will need to be removed, and new headers done or modify these to clear the steering … fouls by 40mm

may be able to chop the bottom 100mm or so off the headers and fit a 4-1 collector to change the angle

Double hunters, what does it mean?

no driving haha

moved them into their semi permanent spots for now.

I need to modify the exhaust on the green one.
then replicated it to the grey/red/primer/bog one.

So yeah, decided to chop the pillars off the roof cut I saved.

looked at the cross section of the pillar, and it made itself very clear.

only had to unpick 2 pieces from the sandwich. Drilled out some spotwelds and ripped it out. Super easy 20mins per pillar to prep them.

the stock pinch weld seam thingy slots straight into it and locates it really mint.

the top of the pillar sits flush as.

with the new pillar location, this makes the front door 240mm longer, which makes the door 80mm shorter than the gtx door. So it’s a huge gain but not as much as most coupe doors.

can’t remember what a mk2 escort door is in comparison for 4dr-2dr. I know they are way longer though.

the rear 1/4 windows will be lexan. I’ll add a flange to the window frame and bolt them on.
