Mate, this is mega cool! Let me know how you go with the rear leaf spring, and if and where you get it from. I’d be keen to get a shorter one for my c3 back in nz so I can get rid of the sky hi truck one they have from factory

oh sweet score.

good luck doing the rear wheel bearings. requires the removal of the rear arms unless you have a tool to do them in place. but the bearings have to have the correct amount of preload set otherwise they have play.

have also fitted a different rear leaf spring to a single one over the factory one. didn't get the car much lower even with adjusting but i guess that would come down to which spring you have.

the one i did used vansteel products being a US company

There seems to be a few options I'm seeing so far

I dunno why corvettes are not more popular, they are pretty affordable for an older American car, and look sweet slammed on some decent wheels

probably because they have a reputation as a car for people who wear heartbeat of America hats, jean shorts and new balance shoes.

they probably just need some cool Instagram kids or that joker in japan that puts wide guards on porsches to do some cool stuff to them and bingo, decimal point gets moved

*I know they are turds as far as a 'sports car' goes but who cares, vettes are a nicely shaped turd

I'm not going to lie, I already have the jean shorts and new balance shoes - just missing the heartbeat of America hat haha

Ah yeah I watched a youtube tutorial vid of the process and noped out of there, living downtown with just a parking garage I can't really handle this myself so I'll palm it off to a local mechanic who knows what's up.

I have to check the rear suspension at some stage, it's definitely been lowered but it's not overly stiff so it probably has height adjusting rods in it rather than a stiffer lower spring.

sweet. Good score. I think they are choice cars but yeah I know what Clint means- they seem to attract a certain type of driver. Time will change that though and prices surely can only go up.

Here's a nice one I spotted locally. I don't really know much about them though - so this is an earlier car eh? But looks kind of the same and I just love this shape...

@yoeddynzyeah that’s the 69-73 rear. They changed thru 74-79 and again in 80-82. In my opinion the 80 shape lends itself the most to mods as it has nicer flares and arches, but sucks cause the interior is pretty heinous and the engines are absolute smog spec. I reckon a set of superlites/wats marched flush to the guards, sitting super low is the way. There’s a dude on Insta “hellvette” in aus that has one on air suspension. Pretty sick

The first time I ever went properly fast in a car was in one of these, it was owned by a chap called Grant Black who also had that V8 beetle (king rat?) at the time. It had a 454 in it as I recall. I wasn't driving cos I was 14 but I glanced at the speedo and it had just passed 130mph. Not so many cars on the Normanby straight in those days.

New roof looks good, does it still come off easily?

Yeah only takes about 30 seconds to unscrew the knobs, but the original t-tops had a more elaborate pin and clasp arrangement that took just a second or so to remove. It basically just has perspex blocks glued to the underside to facilitate the mounting screws and feels a bit cheap. Glad I didn't pay the $700+ new retail price for it.

Looking better everytime! Good attention to detail Phil !!

Do you feel like a drug dealer/porn star/criminal when driving?

All of the above :)
