Bearded Baldy Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 Plastic for the win! Clamp im the vice sideways and start folding an edge. Flip and repeat a dozen times. Onto its side and beaten over the anvil. Corners tightened up with bfh and piece of towbar tongue. Oh. The initial attempt at pressing resulted in a fantastic high velocity deconstruction of the outer section but the steel did start to move. 4 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 Teeeheeeheeee. Family courier service in action! First looks say it need 2 new chokes, old mate would have known as that carb has fresh sandpaper marks in it... still a good deal but a heads up would have been nice. Will start stripping them down tomorrow maybe, and see what they have inside. Currently has 40mm chokes, which should be ok, 38s would be better low down but might limit the revs the old tractor can do. Will see what else is buggered and go from there. 3 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 One stripped. Only one bit that refuses to undo, will try it again after the sonic bath. Pic of ugly choke #1, other is the same. Working at dining table instead of shed due to my leg being a sooky bitch today. Will fire up the sonic bath soon, will have to do one half at a time so will post results later. 3 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 Also yesterday, i remeasured the back seat framing. Apparently 2 of my 3 tape measures are the same, and one is not. And i used an unmatched pair when measuring the frame. So using just a single tape measure, the back seat mounting plates just fit equally on both sides. Sorry for wasting your time @cletus, have biffed the offending tape measure now. And enough room to fit a vinyl covered piece of mdf in between. 3 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 And i know why the auxilliary does not want to budge. Some fecker has done it up too tight and squished it out of shape, on both of them. Will see if other 2 carbs suffered the same fate another day. Time to earn my sign.... 2 Quote
dmulally Posted September 27 Posted September 27 I didn't realise I worked on those carbs before but here we are. Enjoy! 2 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 28 Author Posted September 28 This bastard of a thing. The starter system emulsion tube. 2 of 3 have snapped off the heads. Last one is drowning in a penetrant bath overnight/will probably snap in the morning. Tried heating etc first, then worked my way up the left hand drill bits and still no bueno. Managed to tap the inside of it to 7x1, which looks like the same thread pitch as the housing itself. @HumberSS was kind enough to measure a spare of his, and between us we are pretty sure it is a 8x1 thread. Future baldy will find an 8x1 tap, and try chase/chip out the last of the brass. 4 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 28 Author Posted September 28 And we have 3 snapped out of 3. Nobody ever uses the starter circuits on these anyway so while every other threaded item has been out a few times, these have not. Of course i haven't stripped carbs 2 and 3 down yet aside from trying the starter emulsions. So there may be more crying yet. 1 4 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 30 Author Posted September 30 2 of 3 carbs have been drilled to 6.5mm and then had the brass chased out with a tap. Might do the 3rd one tomorrow. For the record. Main jets 9mmx1 Idle jets 7mmx1 Starter tube 8mmx1 At least it seems to be 8x1, won't know 100% for sure until i actually buy same new tubes. But every other jet is x1 thread. 6 Quote
