I could but then run into potential bonnet clearance issues.

The reason this guy notched the strut tower was to fit his synchroniser, wont have that issue with my plan.

Wow, tight setup but it works!

He also has a 10mm or so spacer in there to slow heatsoak through the manifold. Is in an XF ute that was doing 11.? quarter miles.

12.1 in that vid, ended up in the 11s naturally aspirated, is now turboed and does mid to low tens.

Ultrasonic cleaner to start with.

Need to suss out getting them up here first though. Bro in law has them in his shed now but flew overseas for work this morning.

Not that i need them in a hurry anyway.

Worst case scenario if the outsides dont clean up nicely is some engine enamel sprayed over them.

Back to an earlier episode....

After consulting in the cert thread with mr Cletus, i have come up with this design for rear swaybar link mounts.

Just went to order some 100x3 angle steel and it turns out when i looked up the sizes i didn't see that only aluminium comes in that size.

CURSES!!

So no i have to decide whether i jist make it out 3mm plate or 100x3 shs...

Hang on. If i rehash the way i cut it i might get away with 60x3 angle. Off to see if that exists...

Pretty sure they do 100x6mm

Yeah they do, but that is getting hefty,

I could fax you a couple of bits, pretty sure theres some on the rack at work.

I appreciate the offer, but even though it isn't a racecar, i am not that keen on adding excess weight.

Now if i had bought that milling machine i could turn it into 100x3 lol.

Can you not just get a local fabricator with a brake press to fold you some 3mm plate?

Yes.

Or just scab a few bits of 3mm plate together with a mig.

Also yes.

Option 2 is the way i will be going.

Was purely lazyness and lack of abilty to cut a straight line driving the desire to use angle iron.

Picked up some 3mm plate today, just drew up some templates to print out to try and minimise the amount of measure twice, cut once, start over.

Might even make a jig out of wood tomorrow night to help the cause.

And despite being lazy, i am not quite at the level where i will pay someone else to do a metalwork job i can do myself. Yet.

Indeed. Completely agree, but as I don’t have a brake press I’ll stoop to having someone do that for me  - unless it’s short enough to stick in the vice and beat on it with a big hammer.

Also, my preferred fabricator has had the cheek to retire, so I’ll need to find and tame a new one 🙄

Did you miss the part about me being lazy?

Mark steel, get apprentice to cut it so if i weld it wrong i can blame him. Weld it wrong.

Actually came up with an even easier way this morning. Stay tuned for more info in 1-150 days.
