Was quite reasonable considering distance and interisland etc etc. Have a plan to work the cost into the shed/wifes kitchen reno bank grovel session after xmas. Which will also hopefully give me a space to put it. Not bad considering i haven't seen it yet. Should bring up a south island tour idea... Quote
igor Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 No real rush. I still have to sort out every bit of shit that is blocking it in. The firewood pile is getting smaller at least. 1 Quote

Tiger Tamer Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 Well. I suppose if it's not a Hillman Imp it must be a Morris Minor with a Barra engine. 1 1 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted August 25, 2025 Author Posted August 25, 2025 While i am a lifetime fan of the Morris Minor, and having owned a lilac coupe 20ish years ago, unfortunately not. My dream mog would be an extended body van on an old l200 chassis, with a dirty 5l windsor, auto and side pipes. 3 Quote
dmulally Posted August 25, 2025 Posted August 25, 2025 I'm enjoying the generational levels of scope creep/distraction in your build thread. Makes me feel good about making a speaker box for my chev that doesn't even have engine mounts yet. 4 1 Quote

Back in my speaker days I always thought Kenwood was the classy bogan's choice. But after getting some for my jaguar I was pretty unimpressed. What has excited me more is the leap in bluetooth flavoured amps. My chev doesn't even have a head unit. You connect direct to the amp as you switch the ignition on and control it all from your phone. 1 Quote

Tiger Tamer Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 Sony always made good stereo gear. Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 22, 2025 Author Posted September 22, 2025 Never been a big fan of sony car audio stuff, always seems to focus on bass as opposed to overall sound. Pioneer and kenwood used to be my go to speaker choices but the times have changed and i have no idea what the modern good stuff is, my taste in music is the same though. I am currently debating between some focals, rockford fosgate and infinity kappa'. Hard to find options in 5x7. And none these days seem to come with grills in the 5x7 range. 6x9s which i have a few variations of here, just will not nicely do what i want them to do. Aliex has lots of 5x7 grill options, but i might just buy some perforated mesh yet and make my own, in the factory rectangle styles. Need to measure the front kickpanels up too, see what can fit in there. Had some 4inch components in there but there is way more space to occupy. Looks like bogan baldy will win in the end, since i still have a pair of 12 or 15 inch subs in the back shed. 1 Quote
chris r Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 +1 on focal stuff, or higher spec alpine always goes good too 1 Quote
dmulally Posted September 29, 2025 Posted September 29, 2025 Nice speaker work. I'm looking forward to the next piece of scope creep. I'm predicting making an external sunvisor from scratch or towbar wiring. 1 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted September 29, 2025 Author Posted September 29, 2025 Ooo000ooo sunvisor..... 2 Quote
