yetchh Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Noice xc.... Same old story, have a wagon that has sat in my garage since 2011 after being flagged at the border with rust. Mortgage + two kids and house means it could be there a while more haha 1 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 11, 2021 Author Posted June 11, 2021 Yeah saw it on the Geek app and bought several. My cruiser needs one but the soot up the back doesn't stay gone for long enough. 1 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 12, 2021 Author Posted June 12, 2021 At least yours is in a garage mate, mine has been stuck in the weather for a few years now. At least it isn't salty round here. Quote
cletus Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Sweet! Looks like a tidy one. XCs in particular seemed to be bad for rust, I heard a barry yarn decades ago about there being a worldwide bad run of steel about that era which seems to line up with all the cars of that time being more susceptible to tin worm Pretty cool that you've kept it so long. Bearded Baldy Posted June 12, 2021 Author Posted June 12, 2021 Cheers Cletus, have threatened to sell it plenty of times, but have alot of memories attached to it, and my eldest would disown me if i sold it. Rear quarters are the worst and the base of the passengers b pillar is ugly as sin now too. Was very tidy until it got kicked out of the shed, now it really needs a respray all over. Still don't know if i will get a new vinyl roof or not. Quote
yetchh Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Have you had the front guards off to check for rust?.. Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 12, 2021 Author Posted June 12, 2021 Had one of them off in 2008 as i had a prang and needed to beat it back into shape, was ok then. Scared to look now, it saw nearly a decade with me on the coast with no garage.... 1 Quote
Valiant Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 Cool, glad you kept the 6 cylinder. Is it still on gas? 1 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 13, 2021 Author Posted June 13, 2021 Not on lpg anymore, should update thread with that detail aswell. Running a 2 barrel holley 500. Have a 600 4barrel here but havent decided whether or not to keep the ironhead or go alloyhead, different manifolds. Quote
igor Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Thoughts on iron head vs alloy head? Heard a few bad stories about the early alloy head 4.1s. No idea if they were true. Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 13, 2021 Author Posted June 13, 2021 Alloyhead had quite a few different versions. C1 c2 c2a d e, and unmarked. Pretty much all different chambers, all about a third the weight of the ironhead. Decent aftermarket support for the alloyhead exists too. Quote
Lord Gruntfuttock Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 600 would be wayyy overcarbed for a 6...? Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 13, 2021 Author Posted June 13, 2021 Yeah nah. Once these old tractors start getting half decent cams and compression in them 600s are average sized. Plenty of the aussies are using 600s and 650s with no issue. The ideal size for what i have would be a 570 avenger but i got the 600 for a box so cheapness wins. 2 Quote
Lord Gruntfuttock Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Yeah just checked some calculators, you're right. Surprising... Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted June 15, 2021 Author Posted June 15, 2021 Finally got someone to say i am right. In writing! 1 4 Quote
yetchh Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 My 351c a an 850 edelbrock on it when I got it, mild 226/236 cam.. all literature said it's too big but it went good.. ( 180km out of a 65 liter tank wasn't so good) ended up putting a 650 mighty demon on it as the 850 ran out of puff at about 6k.. (?) 1 Quote
igor Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 How'd the Cleveland like pulling 6k? Seems like a lot of revs for an 8. Quote
