Bearded Baldy Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 After talking to the local cert guy about the seat mounts, we have come up with a new plan for the center seat mount, which is very nearly the same as the original plan as outlined in blue paint in the above pics. Haven't gotten back into that yet though as have been playing with the motorbike instead. Waiting on parts for that now though so back into the falcon we go. And in true Baldy fashion i am not going to talk about the seats for a while, side mission activated! One of the issues i have always had with this 6 cylinder lump, is that it likes to throw the alt/water pump belt anytime you go over 6000rpm, now i know what you are thinking, them motors were only designed to rev to 4500, and you would be right. Enter the plan of fitting a serpentine belt, ditching the power steer pump for an electric one means i only have to worry about crank, water pump and alternator. Crank can be sorted by fitting an e series pulley, possibly an ef one with the crank trigger on the back for future shenanighans, alternator sis also easy, use later model falcon one = 6pk and higher amps than the 35a unit it has at the moment. The problem comes with the water pump pulley, obviously nobody makes anything of the sort for dirty old falcon 6s, all the cool kids wants v8s so that is where the market goes. Which leads us to tonight, sitting at the pc playing some AoE, i started thinking about whether i could draw a pulley in freecad, print one to see if it would work, and then get one milled up eventually. So with no measurements, no clue what buttons i needed to hit, or when to hit them. I ended up with this after about 20 minutes. Complete fluke, but proves the theory is sound. Old dog, new tricks. Spare motor i planned on using to test fitting is hiding in the back of the garden shed, so stay tuned for updates on something unrelated! 9 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 So on a bit of a tangent. I always wanted a rear swaybar in this car, installed a 27ish mm whiteline one in the front when it was my daily which helped a lot but things could always be better. Last year i saw some billet universal mounts on sale couldn't deny how sweet they looked so grabbed 2 sets. Soon after i had a quiet afternoon and made some brackets to weld onto the xh ute diff waiting in garden shed number 2. And today i picked up a marketplace special... xc rear swaybar complete with links and ubolt mounts for dummying it up with the currently fitted diff! For the whopping price of $50. Next mission should be to jack up the back end and start seeing what sort of brackets i need to make to mount the upper end of the swaybars, which may already be there being a 1978 update body shell. Which would be bloody great. Cant get around the shed with the moonboot currently on my foot though so will sidestep that idea for something else. 7 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 No such luck with the swaybar link mounts being installed under the car. Not a biggie though. I can make some once i am back to full mobility. So the next mission is obviously.... 3 Quote
Bearded Baldy Posted April 28 Author Posted April 28 Grabbing this ugly console and making a plate to hold a shifter boot down. And now we wait for the new 3d printer to arrive so i can print it off at a decent pace. 8 Quote
