Popular Post rivalrx Posted January 10, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 10, 2021 Discussion thread link So.....I sold my 618 Coupe and now it's time for an 80's V8 build. 1984 Ford Falcon GL (de reg) 4.1L 6 cylinder and 3 peed column auto Was metallic blue however it's been painted white as it was used for a pilot vehicle for a house removal company, hence the roof lights (now removed). It's been in a shed for years and I can't see much in the way of rust in it, which is a bonus. It does drive, as we jimmied up a direct fuel feed to the carb (unsure of gas tank quality and old fuel) and all the lights work. Cheviot 14x8 tridents (tridons) are currently on it however I have some Ghia 15x7 alloys as well as some 14x8 12 slots with new 245 50 14 eagers coming shortly. Plans for it is to get it back in the VTNZ system and then drop a 351C in with POSSIBLY a tremec or if that is out of the budget, a C4 initially. I have the black XE Ghia side mouldings S Pac lower lip Louvres Wheel arch chrome trim XE Fairmont bonnet (has narrower centre above the grill to accommodate the wider headlights 2 spare rear bumpers XE Fairmont Ghia headlights (wider than Falcon) Full beige XE Falcon interior with bucket seats and console As per usual, my computer is struggling to load 1 photo so hang in there please..... 12 Quote

Then the headlights came up for grabs cheap (usually $700+) so I grabbed them. bonnet needs some loving but not too much. Also I managed to upload the pic of my beige interior (in my single garage that’s full to the hinge end). last pic more inspiration. 16 Quote

Mine is smashed and it seems that all the ones I’ve seen for sale are $250. I saw one at the swap meet today and the one dude said $150 for one which I replied to as a fair price. Then I wandered about and saw one randomly in a pile in another fellas parts and asked how much.....$30. that stuff makes the all the time worthwhile to be looking at the piles of spares at the swap meet. 20 Quote

Popular Post rivalrx Posted February 15, 2021 Author Popular Post Posted February 15, 2021 Whilst the 09 is in a semi lockdown, I thought I’d wire wheel the borgy and see if I can clean some of the crud off it. It’s far from done but I’ve removed about 16 cubic metres of shite off it. I will get some bundy and re run the brake lines in a while and more than likely bin the discs for new vented ones. it weights a tonne and I have zero space in the shed at the moment, so it’s not that easy to work on. I try and aim for a small bit of progress every other day and that tends to keep the spirits up. I still need XD - XF hand brake cables for a disc rear end.... 12 Quote

It’s actually a pretty useless purchase as I’m going to be running louvres but hey, it’s how I roll. I left the spare rear screen behind with the seller as I’m tapped for space and it’s literally the last thing I need in “storage”. 5 Quote

Hopefully I have found a place in Auckland to dry store it, so watch this space. I'm gaghing to get into it and start the tidy re vin process. Today I thought the XE Fairmont LSD disc rear end needs some love, so I got it outside and gave it a water blast. I also yanked and binned the old discs and brake pads as the diff weighs a tonne and I news to make it easier to move about my crowded shed. Next move will be to prime and paint the housing, buy caliper rebuild kits and new rotors with new hard line too. One slide pin is giving me issues in the caliper so sing out if anyone has a spare Ford one kicking about. I finally got my Ghia Fairmont bonnet and 12 slot mags with new eagers up from Christchurch to Auckland. Happy days 5 Quote
Popular Post rivalrx Posted June 7, 2021 Author Popular Post Posted June 7, 2021 I also paid $50 for Fairmont Ghia speedo (usually $200 plus) as this has the rev counter where my povo pack Falcon only came with an “Econo Gauge” which appears to work on vacuum when you plant your foot and shows you how uneconomical your driving is. What a great invention that was I gave the speedo a but of a clean up too and it's ready to be put in. 14 Quote

I checked and they are NOS therefore I snapped them up, as repro are like $72aud each! one day I will reco the snowflake 15” rims and these can take pride of place. I do love NOS goodies 14 Quote

I saw a Ford 302w for sale on FB market place and I swooped on it, albeit after some serious convincing…… ”no fk arounds” ”first in, first served” So after a $500 non refundable deposit, I secured the deal and picked it up from the Tron a few days later. Engine is a 5.0L from an EL XR8 and already has been changed to NA which is ideal for what I need. 190,000kms apparently and it’s meant to be a runner. For $1500 I will take my chances. Think it has a Holley 600 and Edelbrock intake with a dizzy. Ideally I wanted a 351C however this is a cheaper option and I can always stroke it to 347ci. Next is a C4 auto or maybe I can be tempted into a manual conversion. 16 1 Quote
