Popular Post MRWEST Posted June 11, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted June 11, 2024 Few more goodies ordered and underway. Have been very slowly chipping away at things like mounting coils, alternator, plumbing routes etc to get everything to fit in the engine bay. Few minor changes of things to make it all work. Decided to bite the bullet and upgrade from the FC S5 RX7 Gearbox that came with the car while its still in one piece, Looked at my options and settled on a Tremac TKX from Greens with billet adaptor and steel bellhousing (which is more slimline than the FC one so gives me more firewall clearance) including a Quartermaster 7.25" twin plate clutch. So will need to get that in, mod the xmember and driveshaft to suit. SHOULD fit without cutting the tunnel fingers crossed Also went a bit overkill on the front cover upgrade haha. Got a Billet Boss billet front cover with bearing support for the crank snout. Very nice looking bit of kit. All in all an expensive few weeks haha but not to many more parts to purchase. Focus on finishing the plumbing and then get pedal box mounted and a couple of other minor fab bits done! 29 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted June 17, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted June 17, 2024 Got a few minutes in the shed over the weekend, Test fit the front cover, and a billet pro ewp adaptor (has the water temp sensor on the underside not out the top vertically like the Franklin Eng one) . Going to look the part! Ordered water temp, fuel pressure sensors and a Full Function Engineering FD Trigger wheel kit. Another few pieces to the puzzle 17 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted June 19, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted June 19, 2024 Motorsports Electronics Water temp sensor turned up today, nice slim little sensor with a nice fly lead to work with. Will look much tidier than the Franklin Eng adaptor which has the sensor vertically out the top. Also got a fuel pressure sensor to go in the fuel reg. Also got a green brothers billet oil filter pedestal with the oil cooler feed and port for the bosch oil pressure and temp combined sensor. 14 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted June 23, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted June 23, 2024 Got the gearbox buttoned up on the weekend. Had to trim part of the case to fit the starter and also cut the snout off the front bearing cover and then just bolted right up! Also got the factory mazda gearknob fitted up. All ready to test fit up in the car now and sort the mount 23 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted July 10, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted July 10, 2024 Another piece to the puzzle arrived, Now i went to the bearing support front cover in FD style i obviously couldnt run the traditional 20b/series 4/5 CAS. Ordered a Full Function Engineering Kit out of the States which turned up last week. 36-1 Trigger wheel and sensor 11 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted August 22, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted August 22, 2024 Started to get into this again try get some progress going. My 15-16" step lips and barrels turned up from Pine Engineering, bloody stoked with them, has worked out 16x7 and 16x8 with 2inch lips on the front and 3 on the rear. Have bolted all together and just need to seal up and then fit some tyres to make sure all fits good but looking good. Have chipped away at a bit more of the plumbing and some minor mods to the radiator to make the EWP work/fit properly. Getting close to wiring, mount pedal box and a couple of minor fab tweaks then its ready to strip and off to paint. Also got the Tremac in, requied the shifter to be flipped 180 degrees and it comes out perfactly in the centre of the factory hole so can keep my console. Required some minor trimming to get it to fit but looks good without needing to mod the tunnel majorly so pretty happy with that. 25 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted August 27, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted August 27, 2024 Spent the last week of late nights smashing out some more on this thing trying to get the body back to the painter. Got the wheels bolted together, sealed up and tyres on to test fit on Friday night, Stoked with how thats all come together very happy with how it looks. Rear needs the diff head clearanced for the floor and some minor trimming to fit the height. Have been going over the car front to back making a list of the final things to do to get the car back to paint. List of smaller fab stuff to get done which im in the plan of getting that booked in. Assembled the freshly chromed rear bumper and mounted up to the powder coated bumper brackets for a final test fit. Chipping away at things like mounting fuel filters, plumbing etc, making a list of parts that i still need to buy. Quite alot of progress which is good! 28 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted August 27, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted August 27, 2024 Few more bits and pieces. Picked up a EFI Hardware DBW 55mm tapered throttle body setup, have also ordered an MFR Moffat Style V2 airbox with a filter housing/intake that sits behind the front head light, so waiting for that to be delivered. Pull motor this weekend so housings can get PP'd then its off to Fab later in Sept to finish the last bits, Intake manfold, clearance the floor for diff and lowering, gearbox crossmember, pedal box etc etc. Hoping to get that all wrapped up and finish the plumbing then strip to bare shell chuck on jig and get back to painter in a couple of months time 13 1 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted September 16, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted September 16, 2024 Got the housings back from Green Brothers late on Friday, CNC PP, Enlarged spark plug holes, CNC waterjackets, CNC water jacket sealing around the PP etc. Have chucked back together to go back in the car to go get the last bits of fab finished hopefully next week. Get it back in and a few other little jobs done this week before it goes. 18 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted September 26, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted September 26, 2024 Bit more things going down. Bought a MFR Moffat style airbox to run with a behind headlight panel filter feed as well. Cars getting loaded up tonight to get dropped off to Rocket tomorrow (Did a heap of Tim Woods car) for a list of things - Gearbox xmember to suit Tremac - Clearance floor and tunnel for diff and lowering - Change rear diff shock brackets to suit BC Gold - Intake manifold - A "quiet"exhaust running a dual muffler setup under the boot floor now its flat floor - Mount pedal box and reservoirs - Few minor small bits and pieces to finish it off \ 18 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted October 24, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted October 24, 2024 Swung into Rocket this week to check out progressing, Dan and the lads have been hammering it out, bloody stoked on progress. -Have cut the tunnel to allow gearbox to be raised to a better angle (had to come up about 30mm) -Modified gearbox xmember to suit TKX -New driveshaft to suit TKX -Welded up old master cylinder holes in firewall -Fit wideband ports in each header runner -Mounted the pedal box -Mounted wilwood billet reservoirs in the windscreen cowl so nice and hidden away but accessible -Braced EWP as its coming out from the radiator a fair bit -Mounted overflow bottle -Made up the Greens intake manifold kit and welded it up, to get the EFI hardware intake to fit with the MFR airbox overtop and fit under the bonnet -Redid rear diff shock mounts to suit the BC Golds (old shocks had a way narrower eye) -Few other misc holes filled and fab bits done Few things left to do - Clearance floor for diff head an low -Finish sheet metal work for tunnel -Sort brake lines, handbrake cables to suit wilwood rears -Modify MFR intake filter pod to work better with the 20b position /air box angle -Change exhaust to go under diff instead of over (fitted but was really tight and not much clearance) Very happy with how its all coming together and looking! 24 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted November 14, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted November 14, 2024 Dan and the team at Rocket down in Hamilton have been busy as! Tunnel raised 30mm and restitched in, did a bit of clearancing around the firewall/merge collector too to give a bit more space. Have plumbed up oil cooler, cooling system, mounted overflow bottle. Modified the MFR intake by cutting the back half off and folding up a new sheetmetal feed so it lines up better with the airbox intake. Modified the exhaust, moved resonater back from under driver to before diff so it can be tucked up into base of tunnel so hangs way higher, also cut exhaust and went under diff instead of over to add clearance. Can still run my centre console which im happy about was a key thing i wanted to keep with the modified tunnel so that worked out well! Few things left - Finish clearancing under rear seat/over diff head, - Brake/hand brake cables/lines - Modify rear tubs and rear rails to allow it to go a bit lower, now we have raised gearbox and d shaft tunnel its the last bit of clearancing thats needed to get a bit of extra slam. Popular Post MRWEST Posted December 22, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted December 22, 2024 Well picked up the car yesterday from Rocket. Dan and the team have done a killer job. Ended up being quite a list of stuff to do: - Modify gearbox mount to suit Tremac TKX gearbox which required raising the tunnel 50mm to get angles right - Raised driveshaft tunnel 50mm to get clearance -Modify driveshaft to suit TKX tailshaft -Raise under rear seat area an behind fuel tank for diff head clearancing -Make intake manifold, with custom DBW mount -Mount airbox and modify intake feed to line up with airbox -Mount pedal box and reservoirs remotely in windscreen cowl -Modify diff and rear shock mounts -Modify exhaust to tuck it more - Few other minor bits and pieces Because we had raised the tunnel and diff head area there wasn't much extra work to allow the car to be a heap lower. So we ended up notching the rear rails, notching the inside edge of the rear tubs, modifying the rear tubs (Factory half the tub is flat and half tapers down approx 3 inch from the centre to the outer guard lip) so its flat across the top. Now have heaps of clearance at the height its at and nothing rubs which is awesome. Really happy with the outcome, car looks a heap better at the height and starting to come together real nice. Few bits and pieces to do over the holidays then back into it next year! 36 Quote
Popular Post MRWEST Posted January 28 Author Popular Post Posted January 28 Back into 2025 and on the missions to get this done this year. Car went back to Rocket after new years to finish off a few minor bits. Mainly plumbing, brake, fuel, oil, water all done. Fitted 12a savannah lip, made the rear exhaust cut out in lower valance larger to suit the exhaust tip. Im short on time with 2 young kids and work so figured get them to finish so it can keep moving forward. Cars basically fully dummied up in terms of fab/plumbing etc now. Have dropped off for wiring on Friday and hopefully about a month and will come back all wired up. Running Haltech Nexus R3, PD16, WB2 (3 widebands/1 per runner), IC7 dash and then all the usual safety features, fuel/water/oil pressures/temps etc. Ill get it home tear it down to a bare shell and get it back to the painter 28 Quote
