Kimjon's 50cc (then later ... 150cc and 400cc...then 1000cc) of awesomeness!

Yip...done it again. Gone and brought another one to keep the peppermint one company, as no one likes being alone in a cold dark shed.

Guess I can see a road trip to Wellington coming up in a few weeks time to go and collect it.

Im too much of a pussy to ride gravel roads.

That's a lie. I've seen your home made powered contraptions haha.

But seriously, it's low key and lots of fun (full disclaimer I've not done this particular ride but have done a few gravel adventures so I like to think I know what I'm talking about, at least a little bit).

I picked up this storage box recently and today I went about installing it.

Resized_20200913_104723.thumb.jpeg.8624b5315ad3f88ba7574bcb12b1522f.jpeg

The box came with only two (2) holes pre-drilled. I wouldn't call it a "bolt on" accessory, as it took a fair bit of fettling to get it on. But it was an enjoyable little project. I had to measure, mark out and drill 10 additional holes, make a new bracket to relocate the CDI, cut a few bits off the old battery mount, trim rubber bushings etc etc etc...

The box holds a surprising amount of stuff, so it's a nice thing to have. So calling it a win.

And all hidden under the rear fender.

Nice to have, but probably won't do it to my other one.

Did you buy another one? TF is wrong with you!?

oh wait this is oldschool. It’s mandatory to have 6 bikes in the shed :compress:

Oh my, I thought this was a nonjudgemental space for fellow enthusiasts with equal amounts of OCD to support each others hopes, dreams and aspirations?

Nah just fucking with ya. Yip, the struggle is real. I have a disease...

FYI, just discovered a life hack. That plastic guage face was so yellowed by the sun and 20 years of scratches etc it was near impossible to see through.

This paint cutting compound had it crystal clear in about 30 seconds of rubbing (about the physical limit of my own endurance).

Work in progress, but mostly done.

Resized_20201011_101333.jpeg.752b76e583ec610731d9f56c70ef663e.jpeg

I've fixed the brakes by tightened the steering stem/bearings as it had a terrible shudder, this is completely gone now after tightening the stem. The brakes were fine, but I skimmed them in my lathe just because and gave them a scuff up with sandpaper to help bed them in again.

Next I'll sandblast my rack and paint it, now that I've modified it to hold the spare wheel. It had a stupid little storage container that rattled like a mains powered vibrator!

I'll paint the tank at the same time, as it has light surface rust on the top. Then some general tidy up stuff to do etc, but all just cosmetic stuff.

Spare wheel now a real feature, rather than it hiding away in shame under cover.

Cheap and fun way to learn about vespas.

Hot off the press from Stevie Wonder paint works...

Resized_20201015_174550.jpeg.e2af59b51c19d19c4b77ce973ef5e6ed.jpeg

It looked like this beforehand.

Sandblasting it to get back to bare metal.

Zinc primer, then heavy filler primer to try fill the pitting.

Yeah/nah...okay...hmmm...fuck, cunt, shit, balls, cock! Turns out when matching paint, you should actually take a sample in with you to try match it to, rather than just saying "yeah mate, thats the one"... sight unseen.

Resized_20201016_173208.jpeg.9da80e215c3774e3097cd9b587cf55e5.jpeg

Take 2, I repainted it again in a different colour.

Resized_20201016_175140.jpeg.e2b0f3c59582199ef10ad72298272cf1.jpeg

Much better, but still a fair way off actually matching. And it came out like underseal this time, which was disappointing.

But fuck it, after repeating the "yeah mate, that's it" a second time, I just don't have it in me to go back a 3rd time to get more paint, so I can fuck it up again. So its close enough and I'm just going to live with it like that.

Hey, its better than rust, so it's still a win.
