Small update, as parts start dribbling in...

Carb, manifold, exhaust gaskets. Its all starting to tie in with the subtle introduction of red accents through the bike to break up the penguin colours.

I sent a photo to the old owner, as I thought he may be interested in seeing what I'd done to it. He was stoked, and loved the direction I'd taken his old bike in, and thanked me for showing him. He was such a GC.

I port matched the intake manifold to match the carb. It was out by quite a bit. Probably a waste of time - but my ocd tells me that if I didn't someone close to me would come to harm, so I'm not messing with that.

Located the parts carefully to position them in a very tight space. At first I didn't think it was possible, but I play around with it and finally had that aha! Moment.

And just because I need yet another project...

Picked up this brand new reproduction frame today.

No time frame, I'll start stockpiling parts as they pop up. The parts will dictate the build.

Wiring sorted today. I started with a pit bike harness, but ended up making my own wiring loom, because the pit bike has no headlights or taillights etc...the wires from the motor were also cut short, and I didn't like the thin 16/18awg wire that was the only DC output connected through the ignition. So I basically started from scratch.

I used the DC positive from the ignition to control a fused relay, and extended all the wires. I made separate front and rear detachable sub looms, with everything on connectors so it can be easily taken apart in the future if needed.

I hooked up an auxiliary battery and tested every circuit and its all looking good. So I'm stoked.

Its great peace of mind having separate feeds to each circuit, rather than one skinny wire feeding everything.

Its alive!!!! Fuck yeah!!!

Started up, did a couple sketchy wheelies on my driveway and straight into full send up the road. It taps out in 4th gear way to quickly, needs much lower gear ratio sprockets to gain some top end speed. But fuck yeah! Wicked little bike, I'm stoked with it.

New wheels adapted to fit (they were off a different pitbike with different axle sizes etc).

New vm22 carburetor

Rear brakes hybridised between two different types, now functional.

Exhaust tidied up.

We're waiting on a shipment of parts to arrive. But we'll chip away at it, paint a few things that need it and get it looking tidy.

Fingers crossed the hydraulic brakes fit. Im not holding my breath...but hopefully I can machine to fit if not.

Bit of time spent on this today.

I had to cut and welded the brake lever, and the front hydraulic brakes needed a lot of alterations as well. The joys of mixing and matching parts/brands.

We're dry fitting the parts here. Nothing was a bolt on, I had to add mounting points/riv nuts etc. But its taking shape.

And done. Hours of work went into this one, lots of new parts and adapted to fit etc...

Came up really well. And got to teach my son some real life skills and watch him enjoy the end product. The fact that he can now ride a manual with a clutch makes him better than most of the people I work with...

Playing around with ideas.

Still not completely sold on the dax choppers. Some photograph well...until you see a person on it, then it looks a tad silly. No rush, I'm picking up random parts and let it roll...

Mocking it up. Going to need some level of surgery to get the lines right...but isn't that what choppers are all about?

I'm pretty committed to the idea now. So think I'll send it.
