The rear is similar, but the spline section is much smaller. Haven't got measurements on hand. Thread is 7/16x20 on all of them. Also after 4x concentric hubs to locate my wheels on the hubs. Finally found a lead on something I could use at a reasonable price. https://www.allports.nz/category/346-wheel-studs-nuts 20x$5 is fuckloads better than 20x $18!!! I'll chase this up tomorrow. I've never thought of it before, but every old car with aluminum mags will likely need this done. Steel rims are only about 5mm thick, whereas aluminum wheels are more likely to be 20mm or thereabouts...so makes sense in hindsight. kiwisurf Posted October 14, 2019 Share Posted October 14, 2019 Trojan Wheel Studs. I use Auto Trail in Hamilton. Show them what you want and they will have a stud to suit. You may have to drill the hub to fit a larger flange size but the Trojan book will tell you the size drill bit to use. I just did my MK2 escort this way. And yes it can be a cert requirement if your not getting enough turns out of your wheel nuts. "Nice" may have been the supplier, but afaik they came from a local stockist. Early 20's me though they were expensive at the time. Suspect it might have been ~$200 for 20. Kimjon Posted October 18, 2019 Author Share Posted October 18, 2019 Fyi, for anyone in similar situation: Finding extended 7/16x20 with a GM sized knurl for the front is a struggle in nz. Ordering from USA works out about $60...but looooong delivery times. Or extortionate postage if you want them fast. Nice, or ARP etc from most places are about $17 each stud for a set. So $340! Conversion to metric was an option, just need to drill out the hubs a fraction, but would be easy to do. $90 for 20 studs, plus new metric nuts to suit another $40, was seriously considering doing this. Its my experience that while enlarging wheel stud holes might be easy to do as you put it, getting them spot on is a little harder. The true test that the PCD has been re-done correctly can usually first be determined by how well a decent fitting set of shank style lug nuts are screws on when fitting a mag rim. A bit of an optical illusion, the knurl is slightly larger on the new item. I read online that they manufacture them this way on purpose. I didn't have to drill out my holes, as I managed to buy the correct 7/16x20 studs, with the correct knurl size. So it was a straight forward like for like swap. Mag goes straight on, no pcd issues.
