1976 Austin Mini clunk

Hi everyone! Anyone in chch a mini expert?

I own a 1976 Austin Mini. There is quite a loud knocking sound coming from what seems the rear of the car when driven. It occurs when travelling at speed and I take my foot off the throttle

I have been told the axle crosses are shot and need replacing... (pretty sure axle crosses aren’t a thing?)

Can someone elaborate on this? Any advice on how to do it and where to get parts??? Or should I drop it to a shop

WTF is an axle cross supposed to be? Do they mean the trailing arms??? They are more of an "L".

How is it for rust...

Battery fallen through the battery box and dangling?

Rear subframe mounting points loose/broken?

Broken exhaust mounts? Probably this one I reckon.

Not much else under there that could make a knocking like that.

Axle cross often refers to the universal joint in the front driveshaft, although being ‘76 this shouldn’t have those and will have conventional CV joints I would have though.

The other thing that can make a clunk in the driveline of these is the supporting bush inside the steering rack. My 1300 did this for a long time. Heard it right through the floor. Nolathane/Superpro still make this.
