KwS's TVR

Those engines are simple as shit, my father had a reliant scimitar with the same. Any competent mechanic could rebuild it, no need for a specialist.

They pull pretty hard too.

Is far as I recall they are a 60 Deg v, central camshaft with pushrods and tappets. Gear driven cam.

I think a trv specialist would be like a paid to hoard Barry. Someone with an oily old pair of overalls and a chipped tea mug permanently in hand, a mechanical pencil in their chest pocket and long grey hair twirling from their ears, fully ensuring that they never hear a word you say and just hazard a guess when they start replying. The trv Barry keeps their workshop clean as no work is ever done here and takes pride in the cut to fit furniture blankets covering each car.

Basically, living the dream then?

Yeah, a lot of people struggle to understand how the K-Jet works, but over all the whole setup is pretty simple and the same as used in other cars of the era, so lots of experience and knowledge out there. The base engine its self, as you say, is as simple as a v6 can get.

Oooohhh. It is suitably wedgey to go along with your previous cars isn't it.

I'll find some pics when home but my brother owned a TVR S3 with the later 2.8 efi cologne engine. He had it since about '96. Was the second owner and bought it from Paul Matty cars in chch. I'd drive down to chch from Blenheim on a Friday night in my supercharged MR2 and we would spend all weekend hooning around the hills in banks peninsula and do midnight drag racing with all the lads along Moorhouse Ave etc. Dems da days :-)

He moved to Blighty so hannah and I would look after the TVR. Some sweet drives over to Nelson etc. Taught me many things about power oversteer in the wet and being quick with the wheel. fuck it was fun and the v6 sounded fantastic.

Low point was being fair and squarely beat in a drag race against a (twin turbo?) v8 diesel prado thing up the gentle Annie hill out of Nelson. Oh how they laughed.  Red faced me.

We sold it to some fella from chch who had started a TVR club I think.

Re the wiper arm - Mk3 Fiesta 1988-95 - discussed here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=12&t=816540

When was the last time you saw one in NZ though? I can get them new from TVRParts for 25 quid plus shipping, whilst the mondog one cost $7.

The PN on that thread is 6175585, which isnt dead straight like the original TVR ones, so cant be that one (although may be one that works also)

When I first read your build thread,  I thought sound more wounding than a pipe bomb wrapped in 12 layers of 4 inch nails. But as your thread has progressed, it's actually grown on me.  You can pretend you're an early '80s playboy zipping around in your proper british sports car.........

Found a parts catalogue online, although it doesn't give details for the wiper :-

Always liked the Tasmin.

Yeah, got that a while back. I love that they started the manual, got about half way through and then kinda just gave up on part listings, and even some diagrams. No one needs that half of the manual lol.

Not that it matters, it's all tvr part numbers anyway, which doesn't correspond to the donor makes part numbers and there isn't really an official crossover guide. I do have a spreadsheet that someone created with a lot of crossover parts, which I'm adding to as I go, but otherwise Google is my friend.

The wedge (especially the Billy basic looking Tasmin) is a very marmite car. You either love it, or hate it. I happen to love the weird boxy and wedge shaped cars of the 70s and 80s, so that's a win.

When my father had the reliant scimitar he had a wee book manually typed out and photocopied by some BL foamer that listed all of the parts in the car and which car they originally came from, I remember the door handles were from an Allegro which loled me.

About 10 years ago he had decided to sell the car and offered to give it to me, I stupidly declined :-(

Reading between the lines, the Tasmin changed considerably over its seven years, as the Ford and BL donor vehicles changed, and the online discussions amongst the Wedge enthusiasts suggest there were a few variations of the wiper arm length and shape.  All part of the fun with handbuilt cars. :-)

Aeroflow is the big bucks flash stuff, but that hose is scary as hell. There isn't a mm of that hose that doesn't have cracks in it. I expect it from cheap Chinese (or expensive knock off) hose, but not name brand stuff.
