Can't touch up powder coat. Also modded the sway bar drop links so they were not the things stopping it from dropping to max droop. Was going to buy some but fuck it, gave me something interesting to do for a couple of hours. Mmmmmm black zinc, my favourite. I had some treated ply that would do for the floor, but bought a couple of sheets of that foamed PVC stuff for the visual faces; Then the unit arrived; Looks like it will fit... I have made it so it can be mounted in a few positions including right up by the cab, TBH im pretty happy, the materials look good, there are no obvious defects, it is doing what it says on the tin. At this point some issues became apparent. Firstly I had made it so a couple of spare tyres could slip under that frame, and somehow my eyecrometer was a bit fritzed that day as it was 10mm shy from actually fitting under. Thats fine, I was thinking of putting some UHMWPE strips that would lift it clear. Secondly, all the shit you have to do to unpack it was high enough that even my lengthy and well padded frame was unable to reach them without steps to help out. It also felt super high up when you were in it. So today was spent with some cutting discs and some weldy weldy, adressing both of those problems; This is altogether more satisfactory. This week I shall enclose that box and load it up with camp chairs and thermettes and the like. I built another 2 cup thermette the other day just for my morning coffee. Yea that looks a nice setup, probably way bigger than my truck. Having camped out a bit in it while doing the Melee last weekend the only issue I can really see with my setup is how to cook in the rain. And a bigger battery so the chiller runs through the night. For our fridge I run at 4C while driving and then 8C overnight/parked, this really cuts the power requirements. Ha my chiller did that automatically by cutting out in the night and warming to 8 or 9 from 4. I did ok for cooking, I had mashed spud, carrots and kebabs the first night, fried spuds, carrots and eye fillet the second. It probably just needs a cover of some sort where I am cooking on the deck. I could probably do a roast in the camp oven if I got excited.... There were a couple of issues, the rockers started clattering again as soon as it had done some miles, the putty repair to the turbo oil drain failed and the bash plate bolts worked loose. Bash plate was easy, the oil drain is for later when I do an oil change, so this left the rockers. Monday morning saw some credit card abuse and on Wednesday this arrived from Kiwi Cylinder heads; Those got installed tonight, they seem pretty good. The refaced ones were showing a wee bit of wear already; But we will see how it pans out. The new ones are the later style with a proper valve face, so that's nice. And here is a pic after doing Porika, about to take 4 up in the cab, scoot and tent on the back, nothing but goodness.
