Popular Post ThePog
The solenoid got cut up and turned into a much closer replica of the other setup, as much as it could be. I had been pondering it all day, and it had an extra 4 pin holes that would feed into the banjo and potentially mess up the back pressure, so I TIG'd them up and made a proper top bleed screw that fitted into the solenoid housing. Then I set the timing with much care to factory spec. And still fucking nothing, but it did seem a wee bit better. So I fucked with the last adjustment available, which i assumed was basically set right if it had been running - the fuel screw, and lo! Clearly this was the main culprit, someone must have fucked with it. It wont really rev yet, but I decided to stop while I was ahead...
Popular Post ThePog
So this is weird and is starting to fuck me off quite badly. All week I have been able to get it to run and idle no problem, but as soon as I hit the throttle it dies. If the fuel screw is wound in it revs higher but the throttle does nothing. When I crack the injector nuts it bleeds well but always seems a bit bubbly/foamy. Yesterday I swapped out the injector pump for my spare to see if that was the issue, shit is exactly the same. Today I set up an entirely separate fuel supply and filter to eliminate air leaks into the supply, shit is still exactly the same. What The Fuck? The intake is disconnected from the turbo, but at idle the turbo is pushing a bit of air, so I don't think it's restricting anything. Fuck I am running out of ideas. The next thing I will try is to take off the throttle arm and see if I have just set that rotation back way way too far. There is a mark on the top of the shaft and corresponding etches on the arm, but these are at 90 Deg to each other. I have modified the arm and potentially have lost the correct positioning. Any other ideas from you smart bitches? Edit; No need for more input, that was the problem. The throttle shaft has free movement so I set it to run through that movement. It turns out that that isn't throttle movement, it starts after that and is sprung. Some minor fucking with the position and it idles and revs just fine. Whew. 27
Popular Post ThePog
Now that I have broken the seal for vids on this thing, here is a quick walkaround. Just need a few more hours bolting things back together and all going well I will take it for a drive... The only shit moment was when the oil light did not go out when i got the cab on, this turned out to be the haynes manual wiring colours being wrong, once I swapped the gauge and warning light wires over then both worked properly. It is idling a bit high still, I need to mess with that linkage a bit more. But yea, sweet.
ThePog
Good times in Pogland, it has moved under its own power..! Admittedly only backwards and forwards in the shed, but still. The clutch was proving difficult to bleed until I found the correct technique, but then it wasn't moving far enough. I discovered that the pedal mount was flexing enough that the piston was not getting actuated. This was due to an offset/mods I put in when mounting the clutch booster. This caused some head scratching, but an extra bracing bracket has solved it. Unfortunately this meant cutting an access hole in the front of the cab, but this is under the plastic panel so won't be seen. I might turn it I to a summer ventilation hole as the bus has one and it is sweet. Now I just need to actually bolt the body on, fingers crossed it all works ok...
Popular Post ThePog
Well shit, I put the body bolts in and took it for a skid or two up the driveway, it feels good. Only into third cos the drive isn't that long, but it does good skids on the gravel lolol. Doest feel bouncy or wallowy, steering is good seating position is good. It feels pretty lively too. Everything seems to be working as expected, brakes and clutch need another bleed but still. Fucking stoked, might need a crywank now. Neighbor took a vid, I will post when I can get it. 32

kyteler
You must be stoked! I somehow missed you finding the running problem and had to go back but that's all good, glad you got it sorted. Is it going to run some beefy bullbars?
CaMpylobacter
Im gutted it doesn’t have a stack 1
ThePog
Yea I'm fucking stoked, it feels extremely promising. I'm on holiday now so will test things out a bit more when I'm back later this week. Next job is the bumper, Im not too sure what it will be but I can't get too meaty as I need to think about the weight, but I would really like roo bars. Also there will need to be some sort of impact consideration. I did think about a stack, but decided to be a little bit subtle lol.
kyteler
I would think putting in something fairly solid bull bar wise to protect your legs in the event of a smooshin would be the go. A couple of solid supports but then the external bars could be alloy tube to save weight?
ThePog
Something like that will be the go, altho I don't have the kit to weld ally. I have built a few bumpers from formed up steel box, it is likely to be along those lines. I also don't want to cut off too much airflow. The impact stuff is probably going to be based around shear bolts, but I need to talk to cert man a bit more about it.
Popular Post ThePog
Been dicking around with it for the last couple of days, ran it up to temp and fixed a couple of leaks etc, then just working through the list of things to sort. Took it for a sneaky drive up our road which is a dead end and pretty quiet, it feels good. it feels rock solid, there is nothing that makes you worried or scared. I need to keep that shit to a minimum for obvious reasons but it is hard to resist. Brakes are a bit vague but they had some surface rust and this is slowly coming good. Probably need another bleed too and maybe a skim although it pulls up straight. If I could take it out for a proper drive I sure that would come good pretty quick. Yesterday I wound the fuel screw in a wee bit. It gives a bit of a puff of black then starts to boogie pretty well lol. Its no racecar but gets off its arse in an appropriate manner. There is a screechy noise at 3k revs that I haven't nailed down just yet, will need to look harder. The power steering pump seems like it is only just keeping up, I might have to investigate a replacement. This may be the source of the screech, If I swap it out it will tell me. The speedo just doesnt work, I am looking at how to sort that now, but the clusters are known to be a bit shit so a good option might be an aftermarket dash. We will see if I can do it on the cheap or not. Oil pressure reads low, but again I am pretty sure it is just the gauge or the sender, the oil pressure light behaves as you would expect. The turbo has a sweet spooly whistle, it is pretty lol. Today I will reset the tappets or maybe start the bumper. Or any of the dozen minor jobs left. Yay.
Mof
Nice one man, good job Could your screechy noise be a boost leak?

M.H.
Did you use original power steering hoses or have new ones made? Some factory hoses have a restrictor in them

I have also done the bulk of the design work on the camper cabin for it, that is next in line for some attention, although I am now as broke as anything so scraping the funds together for that will take time...
