It'll make the uj bearings at the box do some rotating. Centre bearings are never spot on Yea I didn't think it would be a major, the amount it will be off probably isn't enough to cause any serious cyclic vibration, and while the normal driveshaft flanges also won't be perfectly parallel, again it won't be by much at all. Popular Post ThePog
Yea so that engine... It actually only needs a crank and a conrod, plus bearings, seals and gaskets. Trundles have cranks for $250, con rods for 80. So I reckon for $500 - $600 I can sort it out. Everything else actually looked pretty good. The head had new frost plugs in it and it and the engine had obviously been apart previously. There was only about a liter of oil in it, and it had clearly been run with a spun bearing until it siezed. I will check everything else before ordering anything but that looks like a plan. I reluctantly put it to one side to strip the chassis, then spent today finishing off all the welding; All sorted, although to get through it all i had to tell my wife after tea that I had to 'tidy up' in the shed. This have me a sneaky extra half hour. I am getting this, the cab subframe and the deck zinc arc sprayed. This will be good cos then I can store that shit outside and free up valuable shed space. I have a few big jobs coming up, so I will need it.

Popular Post ThePog
I picked up the completed radiator, the dude supplied a high quality fan and modified the thermo cover to have a rad cap as that's the highest point in the system now. Unfortunately this has evaporated a pretty significant proportion of my financial reserves, so much so that I cannot afford the chassis coating I did scrape together enough wedge to order what I needed from Trundles after checking the rest of the engine, which appears to have been recently rebuilt and looks pretty good. There is some weird shit going on with what happened to it tho, it was probably turboed already, but this had been removed and the oil feed to what I presume was the turbo had no capping on it. This explains the shitload of oil on the diff and engine on that side, and the lack of sump oil, and the seizure.. But why? Anyway, I have been steam cleaning all the bits and prepping to get it back together; Trundles bits should be here next week sometime. I also cleaned up the diffs, with cleaned up caliper insides and new brake lines; Then I put a whole lot of shit on tardme, might have to sell some bikes and shit I don't really want to...
Valiant
People do all kinds of weird shit, they probably took the turbo off, forgot to plug the hole and went for a drive. Is that an oil cooler behind the filter housing?

Valiant
Haha, thanks but no. Does it have 28x1/2 wheels? Have a look behind the filter housing, if it does have an oil cooler it's a great place for bits of old bearing to sit then go through your new bearings once it's running again.

I will check behind that housing then, it was on the list of things to do but it might have been forgotten...

scooters
just wonder if that oil cooler is worth a quick pressure test too with air / soapy water. It will probs come to nothing but it wont hurt to be sure its not doing something dumb moving oil/ water between compartments. EDIT: at regulated air pressure

Right, so cooling system water flows through that manifold in the oil, that makes more sense. It should be sweet, the coolant that came out was pristine, but I will have a good look. Chur. Odd question, but what size round did you use here? And did you have a bender you used to shape it or did you just do it by hand? Needing to do a similar thing for my project. Think it is 6mm, its easiest to cut 2/3rds of the way through when you want a bend then weld it afterwards. Pretty easy to tweak it then.
WhangareiKE70
@ThePog cheers for that. Are you planning to use anything special to form the gasket around the edge?

I have a stack of closed cell foam one sided sticky tape, should be thick enough to close off the gaps...
