By piss tune I mean with no special tools..

Sync by air, adjust mixtures, use the air piston test, get it to a rich over condition..

Nice and ready to go to some old Barry with a colourtune/gunson set/actual sync meter stuff

 

It could be worse, I could've used the twin 175s over the stock single 150, I think the twin 150s are enough, hell the gls/gt hunters came out with twin 40 sidedraughts.

Almost time to drop the 40 over pistons into it and get the cam done, shave the head a few thou, chuck in a fresh rod set

Standard Valve springs will stop you from over reving it anyways

mate  I learnt  agers ago fucking around with blocks .....just order long ubolts and make blocks to fit the drop you want..

the kit I got worked out to way cheaper than just sourcing the bolts.

ill run it as it for now and make 50mm blocks later. need to get hold of some early ford front springs for the front first.

Shit that looks good @shizzl.

The back looks like it could come down a little more but it doesn't stand out as obvious either.  Might settle down a bit yet.

I love how tough a car can look with some wide steelies and decent low.

I'm going to change the front springs anyway which will probably lift it about 10mm from its current height..

It was parked in a slight dip which tipped it forward..

 

It handles pretty good as it is, would lots better with new shocks.

zero updates, and currently has zero wof..

 

Need to replace both front shock inserts, but thats where Im stuck... no one has been helpful in sourcing anything that will fit, or even provide something that could be adapted to fit. or atleast the info I need to pick the best option..

 

Im 99% sure that a 80/90s 318 BMW E30 front insert will drop straight into the leg.. the only difference being the size of the bearing shoulder and thread size.

BUT, I cannot confirm due to incompetent parts monkeys not being able to give me accurate measurements..

 

If I can source a pair of E30 shocks I can crack into getting this on the road again for a couple of drives before winter.

Ive also got something else cooking in the engine bay, but require another airfilter box for that to be completed, will be pretty sweet for what it is.

also still trying to nut out how to do the twin choke cable for the carbs

They list that they have shocks but the page could be old. 

Also, as I think I've mentioned before.  If you're willing to try second hand head to Parkside Panels and ask for Ewan.  Take the Hunter with to engage his interest.  He might have something in his stash or his father, Peter, might.

So while the family is away up north ive been bored shitless and trolling FB marketplace..

stumbled across a local who is trying to offload some shit from his old ladies house.. turned out he has a hunter motor..

contacted him, went round to check it out, looked like a pile (standard british OEM spec).. looks to be either from a 68 hunter or a gazelle or one of the other many Rootes powered contraptions..

Asked what he wanted for it, he said "just want it gone".... choice free motor for spares.

 

got it home and started pulling it apart...plans are to bore it out and put in my +40 pistons, bike carbs and get the cam reground, and port match the head etc...

 

then.....

got the head off, scraped off some of the carbon build up (stromberg lube) off the pistons to see what they were.. they all look relatively fresh, and have 1.50 mm stamped on them

fucking score!!!

Bores look mint, valves dont look too bad either.. and another carb to add to the collection

so according to an internet barry specialist what I have here is a 69 MKII engine with oversize pistons pushing it out to 1789cc, this block is a 5 bearing crank so is the better block to work.

need a socket to get the crank bolt off, so I can access the cam to see if that is stock, and then send it away..

sorted...turns out it is a 32mm which I actually have..

 

block is completely stripped, the bores have very recent looking cross hatching in them/very low kms since the build..

cam looks brand new with no lobe wear, lifters have no marks on them.. the piston skirts look new although with some minor running marks as expected..

Im picking that this was fully rebuilt, run for a bit then pulled out..

I will most likely just get the block super clean and paint it, then clean and reassemble the bottom end.

work out what the cam is if its stock or slightly tickled.

 

then I will move onto the head, open up the combustion chamber similar to a Holbay or Marathon spec, then work out how much I will need to take off the head to get the comp ratio where it needs to be.

will set the bike carbs up on this motor, and if it all goes to poop then not much loss at all
