Popular Post flyingbrick
Such a long day. Ran out of reception but.. Second breakdown.. boards came sliding off back of trailer. Oldmate tried to assemble the thing and we nearly had it going but the rebuilt starter is slipping (do all starters have a multi pack clutch?) Went dirt bike riding Had the most TERRIFYING drive back from the tip of Coromandel back to thames.. that road is not made for car trailers. Also.. the short story is.. the guy parked it ip for a rebuild. Had a stroke. Memory and body not as good as they were etc, sold it to me with lots of spare parts he eas accumulating. Bags of seals, new brake drums and shoes, etc etc etc. I learned a huge amount while hanging out with him! Had to get towed from bottom of property up to main road as so steep and me only 2wd.
Nominal
So you now have 2 tractors?
flyingbrick
I have one tractor that I have been talking about (but had not collected) Does anyone have any experience with rebuilding ferguson starter motors? Apparently it has a multipack clutch thing (i have a spare clutch bowl here) that is compressed by the torque of the starter (its got a screw cut shaft, torque forces the clutch plates to one end of the shaft) but its not bloody gripping properly. oldmate reckons maybe it may have oil from rear main seal on the clutch plates (surely theres a seal in there?) And despite searching i CANNOT find a rebuild kit or rebuild manual online. Tractor place has just told me that replacement is a good option. WTF. this things made when replacement was not an option. I refuse.
igor
Do you have a crank handle?
flyingbrick
No crank handle. Old mate has oiled the clutxh plate stack. I dont think that needs assembly oil. Could be wrong? But goes against my judgement Anyway! I was happy to see that the commutator has just been machined and new bushes through it.. Quick wash with acetone and its back together! i -might- be able to crank it over tonight
flyingbrick
So took the two clutch plates and measured.. then did drawing. Two are being cut from 6mm mild steel so the fucker will not slip no more
