Popular Post Steelo
Hey team First of all the discussion is here: https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/58920-steelos-1985-ae85-levin/ So I have had this car for ages (about 11yrs or so), when I got it was a stock 3au powered auto and I drove it around for a while before I took it off the road to begin work to make it something a bit more fun! Work done so far: TRD springs 8kg front and 6kg read with short stroke shocks Smallport 4age with loom and ECU and 22 spline T50. AE86 pedal box AE86 rear end with a TRD LSD. AE86 Fuel tank and lines. Wheels: SSR MKII 14x8 -12 front and 14x9 0 in the rear. Work to be done next: Wiring. Fucking Wiring. lol. Seriously please help me with this! link to discussion above. Here are some pics of the car!
Steelo
I thought I would update here to so people could see where I am up to. As said in the discussion, I am currently stripping back the wiring for the Engine and removing wire that aren't needed such as ones that went to the body of the ae92 and removing them from the loom. I have separated the alternator wiring from the engine loom at this point and will integrate it back in at a later point once I look at the car and see what factory wiring I can retain. Still unsure of a few things on the loom at the ae92 fusebox end of the loom. I hope this will make sense once I look at the car......it's not at my address at this point. Please feel free to comment and post pics of your wiring on your ae85 conversions - I would like to see them! Also I would like to see pics of what people have done for a throttle cable mount onto the side of the intake manifold. Cheers.
Steelo
Hey team, I was doing a bit of homework today on the 85, I hooked up a battery so I could see what had power constantly and what had power with the key in the ON position. I'm just wanting to see what I can use to power the 4age ecu with. Looking in the passenger kick panel here. This thicker white wire has 12v as soon as the battery is hooked up - would this be suitable to tap into to use as constant power for the ECU? Also to the left of this wire, in another plug, there is a white / red stripe wire that has the same constant 12v. Could this be used? This next wire only has 12v when the key is in the ON position. The green plug goes into the old emissions control for the old engine and is now surplus to requirements. Can I use this black / yellow wire for 12v switched power for the ECU? Thanks guys - I know this the most boring part of any conversion lol
Steelo
Hey fellas, I've just had another poke around the wiring on the levin......a few things I saw left me with a few questions. Have I not been able to see the forest for the trees? I have read over and over that people use the stop circuit to provide constant power to the ECU (BATT) I noticed there was a fuse labelled as "ECU - IG"...I tested this and it provides 12v on ignition. I don't know what ECU is it currently providing power for, maybe the emissions control? There is a B/Y wire going to that that has 12v on ignition. Does it seem logical that I can use a fuse tap from the "STOP" fuse to provide constant power to the 4age ECU? Can I use the same fuse tap method to provide switched power to the ECU from the "ECU-IG" fuse? Am I an idiot? Or could this work and eliminate all the wire tracing I was in the middle of doing?
